Hi,
I just added trits to my raw NS myself and I thought I'd give a few tips as they may be useful to anyone considering adding trits to their light who have never done it before, as it is quite fiddly. This was my first time doing something like this and it went very smoothly.
The idea is to glue them in with superglue. Unfortunately it's very messy but I've found a way that's not too difficult.
What you need:
1) Make sure you have very thin / not viscous superglue. The more water-like the better. It "wets" the slots a lot better!
2) Some wooden toothpicks or mini cocktail sticks. They must have sharp points.
3) A very small amount of blu-tack
4) Cotton buds (Q-tips in the US?)
5) Please make sure you do this on a plate incase you drop a trit so it doesn't roll away into darkness :candle:
First you want to make sure the slots are really, really clean so the glue will take better. Ideally you'd rub them with alcohol using the cotton buds for this. Ensure the slots are dry before proceeding or the glue will set instantly on contact!. Form the end of your blu-tack into a small rounded point.
For each slot:
1) Note how small the vials are. Don't try to pick them up with your fingers or you'll break them!
2) Wet the end of one of the toothpicks with superglue, try to get a very small bead of glue but not too much and rub it along the slot. The less viscous the glue the better. Don't overdo this or you'll have excess glue to clean off your Raw NS after.
3) CAREFULLY pick up a trit by very lightly touching the middle of it with the end of the blu-tack. Almost no force is necessary! I have found this to be the best way to pick them up. I would not use tweezers because I was worried about crushing the trits - but you may find it better to use them.
4) Lower the trit into the slot, and with your other hand, hold the trit down using a clean toothpick while removing the blu-tack. If you did it right, the blu-tack will come away without any force at all and the trit will sit in the slot.
5) CAREFULLY touch the trit at both ends and the middle with a clean toothpick to ensure it is recessed into the slot.
6) If you used too much glue, resist the temptation to rub the excess off because it will smear on the fine finish of the light and make a mess. Remove it after the superglue has completely set (give it a couple of hours to ensure it's 100% set).
6) Hold it infront of a slow fan to speed curing for a minute or so before going onto the next slot (or just leave it to air-dry)
Or, to avoid all of this, make sure you order your Raw NS with the trits in the first place . If you forgot to order trits like me as you thought you wouldn't need them, you can get them from Lummi - just go to the Raw NS page and add the locators only.
Again I can't stress how careful you have to be as you don't want broken trits!
