Beware, it can happen to you! Since I'm leaving on a trip tomorrow, I had to take some old rotten boards to the "refuse station" today.

After loading them up on top of the Corolla, I noticed my Preon 1 was missing from my shirt pocket. Since I had tightened up the clip, I wondered if I had set it down somewhere.

Upon arriving at the "refuse station" some 6 or 7 miles from home, I got out of the car and stood up to loosen the ropes on the carrier and there it was, sitting on top of the car, right on the edge of the sunroof.

Watch out, even with a nice tight clip, they can slip out of your pocket when you are tying boards on a roof rack and if you don't drive carefully, it's lost

I've "lost" more than a few things to the top of my car as I drove into the sunset. Many a times I've left my soda there too as drivers in other cars honked at me. Glad you found it in time.

I've lost a few things off the roof of the car before...

Closest call was with my camera though. This was at the end of a 4 day hiking trip way out into far reaches of a provincial park... so my camera was full of priceless photos and videos and I was also quite tired when I got back to the car at the end. It wasn't until I was driving along the highway back home that I started to wonder where I had put my camera... This was after driving at a decent speed down a steep, winding, and bumpy fireroad and parking in a supermarket lot while running in to get some junkfood. Somehow when I pulled off the highway and got out of the car, there it was, perched on the roof. Luckily the car has rails along each side for mounting roof racks, but it still had plenty of chances to jump ship. Amazing that it stayed on.

Back on topic though, I always make sure my lights are either in holsters, deep pockets, or have tight clips... but stories like this make me worry! How good would you say the Preon's clip is?

Lassie. Go find Timmy.

Woof, Woof

Hate it when that happens. And I hated it when I lost a nice knife the same way.

Some time ago an elderly german citizen fueled his car at the border (gas is cheaper here) and forgot his wallet on the roof, with 40.000 (!!!) euros inside.

The wallet was found, nearly all the money that flew out as well, but he got mail from german taxes, as he had placed the money in Luxembourg and had come here to get it from the bank and take home... to buy a thousand Preons!

In my experience with one preon clip, it started out tight but was not real springy to use the technical term.

I got the kit, which has two clips, one shiny and one annodized. I had the shiny clip on the preon1 body clipped in my front pants pocket bezel down, and when I removed the light later the clip was wide open (maybe 1/4" gap between clip and light). It may be that I put an undue stress on it somehow, but I've carried other lights that way without problem.

it's easy enough to make the clip as tight as you want -- if you take off the tailcap you can bend the clip past the body so it's nice and tight when it goes back together. It's great in my shirt pocket now, but I don't do pants clipping anymore.

I lost my Fenix L0D at Cedar Point on one of the roller coasters. I had it in my left-front pocket too. I'm guessing it was the Raptor. :sick2:

I have virtually zero faith when clipping things in my pocket. I've noticed that regardless of how clippy it may be, when I sit down/bend over etc my leg will almost always push it out/90% out of my pocket.

I now do waist band carry for my edc knife and keep my edc light in my pocket snug against my phone.
