I need to make a pack out of my Ni-MH D cells for a cheap but effective torch that uses only one 18650 and lasts only 30 minutes. I am thinking that I will just plug a pack of three D cells in the side of this cheap torch.

I just want to use it for reading, because our off grid solar panels do not produce enough power, and I have to take my small batteries to the library to charge them.

But if they are soldered together how can I charge them? Is there a holder that would do the job, let me take them out that is.??

you can charge them soldered, if you have right charger.
you can use radioshack holders, they have 1, 2, 4 D cell holders, just get 1 and 2 cell holder, and wire them in series. remove cells and charge separately
