Hey all. I have a custom mule I am considering selling but would like to be convinced to keep it.

My levels are unique. <1 lumen, thought. It would be useless, but surprisingly bright for all flood. 25 lumen, decent low-medium level, and around 175 lumen for room filling flood (Nichia 119v). I have it on a 14500 body.

So, please tell me how you use your mule, your levels etc. photography, checking on kids. Please convince me why I need to keep this. I have a floody Mac tri Edc, so there is overlap, but it's not all flood like the mule.

That sounds like an awesome light.
If you're not happy with it I think I would be very please to take it from you.
As for me, I'd use it for everything, including playing around with.
 
I quite like my Mule for indoor usage where you don't light things up more than a few feet away anyways. Or general task lighting like working in an engine compartment or something where large even illumination is advantageous. Also like the Mule in tents. Hang from the roof for lighting the whole tent while everyone gets into bed or plays a game or whatever. It's specialized, true, but nothing else does what it does, so I really can't justify not having one in the arsenal for times when I need it. Unless you're hurting for a little cash, just keep it and find the times when it excels.
 
Don't necessarily want to be the dissenting vote, but I did sell mine since I felt the Mac Tri would be floody enough. I also have an XML Haiku which is pretty floody. Floody enough that I could not justify keeping the mule.

Keep it for a while... if you are not using it, release it into the wild.

For general EDC, I prefer my Tri EDC to the Mule too, but in some applications I think the Mule could be perceived as superior. I don't feel they are mutually exclusive.
 
Money is a bit tight, no job, baby on the way, but I think it's okay to keep for now. Have read these are great for photography?

I got a foursevens preon mule purposely looking for a No-throw. I've always had a soft spot in my heart for massive amounts of flood that don;t go far. use my 4sevens daily.
 
I love mule/no-throw lights because the beam pattern is so uber clean. No hot spot, no focused areas, no blemishes. light the area up with the exact same amount of light.

I got the Preon P0 for my key chain, the though was to have a light that requires little effort to get something lit up. IE dangling on keys not pointing it still get light on subject. it ended up going on a necklace that I haven't stopped wearing. now wanting a get BQG for my keychain.
I used to carry a homemade mule, used it all the time, cuz it had a handy clip. I needed another no-throw in the lineup, and the P0 with a battery in the tail fits the bill well.

Actually this light doesn't have much use ATM. although its new, and being on the necklace, its on hand when others aren't. I also find the Preon P0 being my go to loaner to give to others when they ask for a light. especially the kids.

but Mules are absolutely great in headlamps for up close work!
 
Sure, great for photography. I use it on one of Don's tripod stalks for doing close-up work.
I've also used it in a backpacking tent for general lighting.
 
Shhhhh... I sleep with mine (don't tell anyone). It's in arms reach with I'm in bed. There if I need it at night, every level is useful & used. I've also used it for some photography. Sold a Sundrop 3S, but this one stays.
 
While the Mule is a great setup with an ultra wide flood, I found the sundrop XRU a bit more suitable for the night run to the toilet or checking the room. The Sundrop provides directional light that has a bit more throw than the mule for what I want it for.
The Mule would be great for photography.
 
I have the Ti-PD Mule and for close quarters work such as in the house, car repairs, etc there is no other light that can beat its wide, evenly spread beam pattern. Furthermore it s the smallest PD form factor that i have and its a gem IMHO.
 
My oil slick black AMC Mule is my most used and prized light. I use it for 75% of my lighting tasks around the house and outside, because it provides such a nice spread of light. The size is perfect in my hand, and with multiple levels, it can serve as anything from a candle to area illumination.

I would love to see Don do another run of the AMC Mules!!! I think that I need to post an interest thread to encourage him to consider another run of these wonderful lights. :thinking:
