As some of you saw in the other thread, the wife got me a gift card to Bass Pro Shops, so I went and got a new light today. Unfortunately they didn't have near as many lights as their website shows. The price break went from $50 to $100 with nothing inbetween. And the wife wasn't going for a $100 light. So...

I ended up with the Streamlight Twin-Task 2-L. It has green LEDs that are not supposed to scare off animals. So far so good, this thing kicks butt over my 2AA Minimag.

Here are some pics.

Even the green LEDs give the Minimag a run for the money.

But the Xenon bulb is way brighter and has a much better pattern than the Minimag.

been looking at the 2D model as a car light. looks nice

Nice pics. :)

I'm glad you found something you're happy with. Happy Father's day.

OK, I have a newbie question. I was looking at RCR123A rechargeable batteries and chargers on the net. One site said they charge to 4.2V, and are not recommended for incan lights. So here is the newbie question... is a Xenon bulb considered incan? I think so, but I thought I would ask. Also, with this light, might I have problems with the rechargeable batteries?

Yes it is an incandescent lamp. I have used this set-up in the past http://www.batteryspace.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=1641, but it does push it to the edge. I have blown the lamp with this set-up once, but I have also blown the lamp with stock CR123 batteries. I also use it in my Streamlight TL-3 and my Pelican incandescent without any problems.

Great choice, KingGlamis. That camo coating makes it a handsome light.

I was going to suggest you get the 3C or 3AA TwinTask because of their cheaper, easier to find cells. But, if you don't mind buying CR123a cells or will use mostly rechargeables, this light should work out great for you.

I have a 1L TwinTask and it's a great little task light.

Now that it is dark I have been playing with my new light as well as a few other lights. This thing is very bright!

I just mowed my lawn in the dark, using only the green LED function of the light, and I could see everything just fine.

When on Xenon mode it is very bright for short to medium range, but the long-range throw is not that great (I expected that).

I think this is a great light for the money.

I bought the plain TwinTask 2L a couple of months ago, also (white LED). I used it for a Search and Recovery exercise in an abandoned hospital. I was very impressed. I like my LED lights, but the incan seemed to work better for searching dark basements. It's kind of nice to know that if I dropped it and broke the bulb, I would still have the LEDs as a backup. I don't really like the cycles on it though.....incan, LED, incan, off. I would have rather had incan, LED, off.

On a side note, I also explored a "haunted", abandoned mental hospital. Talk about spooky:eek:oo:. I didn't see anything, but heard some strange noises:faint:

The Twin-Task 2L was my first "real" light and compared to the Mags I had been used to, I thought the Twin-Task was amazing. I'm constantly amazed that the Mag-Lite is so popular, it's really not a great flashlight (I'm talking about the AA-based versions) and the Twin-Task is reasonably priced for what it delivers. My next light was an A2, and I really haven't used the Twin-Task much since buying the A2.

Those were followed by a D-Mini (my EDC) and now an MRV. Last Friday night, my wife and son and I were walking back to our car around 11:00 after seeing Tom Cochrane at the Mississauga Waterfront Festival (Ontario, Canada). I had the MRV with me, and used it to light up some trees just for fun. This thing was almost as bright as the concert follow spots! Even my wife, who thinks this whole light thing is a bit crazy, was playing with the MRV, lighting up the tops of 15 or 20 story apartment buildings.

I wish someone would make a smooth reflector for the Twin-Task.

I bet that light would be difficult to find if you dropped it in the grass?

True, but... when camping I treat my flashlights with the same care as my guns. So the chance of me dropping the light in the grass is pretty slim.

I'm actually not a big fan of camo. I like the fact that this light is different than a lot of others, but realistically, I probably would have bought a black or silver one if they had them.

I have a 2D with 10 LED's and Xenon. Rarely use the Xenon lamp as its pretty dim (wish I could mod in a diff lamp), but the 10 LED's do a nice job at small area lighting and will run for a long long time. I once left it on under under the kitchen sink, wife found it 3 days later (it was set for 5 led's on) and it was still bright. Nice heavy build.
