I have become a CR123A convert

When I first discovered 123s not too long ago, I was against them, as AA was all I knew. I tried to standardize on AAs and still do to an extent but I just love the form factor of 3x123 in a Surefire, and 4x123 is really nice also, IMO, this is where they really shine. But if I wanted single-cell lite, I think 1x123 would be really nice also, assuming you got spares.

It's the runtime, the reliability and the ability to work in cold weather, plus compactness.

My EDC lites usually carry Li-Ions in them but I also EDC spare 123s. I also keep plenty of 123s in the vehicle. Li-Ions are good for money-saving measures but for real emergency or TSHTF, nothing less than 123s will suffice.

I use Malkoff modules and the ones I have don't draw all that much Amps from the cells but I noticed that either Li-Ion or 123s work better than NiMH chemistry that I used a lot in the past.

I was initially AA/AAA only.

Then I got my first CR123A light and really appreciated the small size combined with great output. The cold weather performance of CR123A cells is a major bonus for me, considering how cold it gets here in the winter.

Now I've taken the plunge into Li-ion cells in order to get the lights I really want and have guilt free lumens.

I haven't abandoned AA/AAA lights by any means, just broadened my horizons.

Just wanted to welcome you to the club.......I edc one AA light and its partner is a cr123 light. Makes a good combination.:)

But RCR 123A s are in fact Li-ion. CR123 are non rechargeable Li-ion and RCR123A are rechargable Li-ions ,yes/ no ?

Not picking on you but I really do not like to see these Li-ions referred to as 123s without the A on the end. There is another cell chemistyr LiFePO4 which is manufactured by A123 Systems and the short name for thier cells is A123s

Different battery types(chemistry) should have much clearler names IMO.
A Ni can be a Nicad or a NiMh ,a Pb (lead acid) can be regular,deep cycle,hybrid, flooded cells,sealed (AGM,Gell ,SLV), Li can be Li-ion,LiPoly,Limag,Li colbalt,LiFe,LifePO4 and I am sure I missed a few..


Never mind. Upon rereading the OP I see that they were refering to the size 123A not primary versus rechatrgables . I agree that they re a convient size but as I an a rechargable sort of guy they are a bit short in the capacity department.
