I need some help creating underwater led

Hi all. I specialize in marine audio and led lighting. Ive been doin it for 7yrs and run my own business. Im needing some help on creating some led modules. I have a customer who wants to put some leds under his swim platform. But he doesnt wanna spend $2-300 on the leds that ocean led makes. So i was tryin to com up with a way to build my own and market them.

1st- they need to be blue
2nd- run off 12v-14v
3rd- they need to be waterproof bc they will b submerged in water 90% of the time
4th- they need to be as bright as possible
5th- they can only be about 2-3inches tall bc i dont want them hanging below the lip on the platform
6th- they need to be screwed in, not taped bc of the force of the water pushing against it

I was thinking about using these somehow but in blue:

If it where me I'd use 4 P7 LED's in series formation. Then use a blue filter.
This would be very bright.

It is a SSC P7 LED DSXOJ. Meaning its really really bright, and has a natural blueish tint. Not enough to be blue-blue. But you can use a filter for that.

NOTE: These LED's need to be heatsink'd if you plan on using them for more than 5 seconds. Use thermal epoxy and glue them to a solid peace of copper or aluminum. You plan on these LED's being completely submerged with no seal? Do you plan on using reflectors?



If you want to avoid drivers or circuity you can do 4 P7 LED's in series, or you can do 4 in series and 4 in parallel. Depending on how much you want to spend.

as for making this submergeable, I would but it into some type of sealed clear plastic box of some sort. Doesn't need to be 100ft under water, but it does need to be submerge-able.

Why? The Satistronics he linked to are brighter and cheaper, and native blue (just a tad of cyan in them). I have the 20watt Versions and they are nothing less than scary and can likely be seen from orbit. A bunch of these mounted to the bottom of a boat without optics would be uber_cool.

Heatsinking is the issue, but if they are always going to be used in a submerged environment this gets a lot easier. It's the housing that's going to get costly. Any driver that would work in an automotive environment and can handle an amp should work.
