I want a hotwire! But...which one?

Well, it seems that it's time for me to pick up a high-temperature-tungsten hotwire monster! :D I've lingered in the waters of LED, and sampled the wares of HID, so now I think it's time I complete the trifecta.

Unfortunately, I've failed completely in tracking down one of Mac's beautiful "Torches," which is understandable. But! I do want to have something that will make me just giggle every time I turn it on, runtime isn't hugely important but in this instance, raw output is. I have a 10w HID as my brightest light at the moment, and it's pretty awe-inspiring to someone raised on Mags.

But I really do want something just jaw-droppingly awesome - I've heard the M6 is a very giggle-inducing light (even though I've little true reason to have one), and some of the Mag85s seem like they could be pretty cool too.

Unfortunately my knowledge of hotwires is just far too limited, so I thought I would ask the folks that would know - for just stupid, stupid output with either rechargeable or common-battery runtime, what should I look at? Again, my baseline as an unachievable ideal is a "Torch," so go from there. :)

Thanks, CPF!

Well the mag 85 is pretty straight forward, or you can do what I did and buy one complete, I got mine from CPF member mad maxabeam on here, he has them for sale periodically, and he is great to deal with.

If you've already experienced a 10w HID, I don't think the M6 will make you giggle that much; maybe just slightly when its fresh and also because its pumping out a nicer color.

If you can't get a torch, maybe a Mag623 (well same bulb as Torch, but not 'packaged' the same) or 625... I believe those are in a different league than the Mag85. I think you need a light that is 2-4k lumens, and not just 1k+. :D

Add: Or Maybe Mag100R or USL if there are still any floating around.

My 2cents - I have a Mag623 from Mad Maxabeam. While it only lasts for 8-10 minutes on a charge, it's light is fantastic. 4400 lumens from a Mag3d is just unbelieveable until you see it. I'm waiting for the weather to get a little warmer before I start any paper fires but if you can find one of these light, you will not only giggle when you start it up, you will downright LOL.

Well, I am looking for something that's just ridiculous, so it looks like I'll keep slinking around, waving cash in the air and hoping it attracts a Torch. :D

Thanks, guys! When I get one, I'll be sure to take as many pictures of it as I can. Maybe I'll even set some interesting things on fire. :)

You might want to check out JimmyM's Mag625R on B/S/T, a monster Mag with a regulated 625 bulb. It's about as ridiculous as it gets, and JimmyM is a good guy to deal with.

Thanks, Josey. Right back atcha.

Here's the link to that 625R. It's not for the faint.

You might consider this...
Get a tri-bored 3D Mag (a la Mad Maxabeam's Mag623)
Buy a couple of Osram 64458 bulbs.
Buy 3 additional IB1400 cells. I believe Max uses the IB1400 in his 13 cell pack. From scratch, use 16 Elite1500s.
Add the new cells so that it's a 3x5 pack with one cell sticking out the end.
Mod the spring to accomodate the longer cell.

This will put you into "rare air" indeed. 9000+ lumens.

If you think the 4400 lumen Torch is a firestarter....

Josey just bought an 11,000 lumen beast from me.
