Newly Enlightened
I was at Ikea this afternoon and stumbled on a new item... a flashlight.
$5 each, they come in white, blue and green plastic. I picked up a couple of the white.
Single-stage; soft silicone switch.
Back end of the light.
Takes 4XAAA (4... not 3). I bought 4 of these, and found with all of them, one battery was a little bit stubborn to snap in the holder (positive end down).
Inside battery compartment. The plastic wall is quite thick, like plastic pipe you use for plumbing, but it's more translucent like plexiglas.
The emitter
Next to a Zebralight SC31Fw and an Ultrafire WF606A
I have old paneling... no white walls, so here's a compromise (Zebralight at medium, and Vader)
Ultrafire WF606A (Cree XR-E P4) and Ikea Vader
Obviously it tail stands nicely, and the thick white plastic makes for quite a diffuser. They just might be a great/cheap light to set on shelves/cabinets/etc for power outages, which I have more than my fair share of.
I'm sure heat sinking is minimal to non-existent; so lithium batteries might be a problem if using for hours (or maybe not??? they're certainly not pumping out 200 lumens).
There is a lens protecting the emitter... but looking at the construction, I have doubts about any sort of serious water resistance.
For $5, I like them a lot.
