I\'ll Pill Beamshots Here!

Sorry, I didn't take them at the best location due to it raining last night, But I think these will give you guys an idea. If anyone would like mne to re-take any shots I can do so tomarrow night. My wall is not perfectly Flat and is a bit reflective.

MMs.jpg

The Little Guys I have before I give them away or sell them. Whichever comes first. Left to right

Jade MM with Cyan LD P3G, NX05 Optic (removed the kroll)
Silver MM with White HD R??, Modified Reflector, Kroll Switch
Blue MM with White LD Q2K, NXo5
Blue MM with White HD R??, Fraen Optic.
All lights Have Mineral Glass Lense...

IllPillBeamshots.jpg

And here we see the P Binned LD Cyan Kicking all the other lights asses. I built my GF a LD Q4G binned Cyan that is a whole level brighter than mine; But more Green(not pictured).

ReflectorVsFraen.jpg

Reflector R bin Vs Fraen R bin.

CyanVsFraen.jpg

P binned Cyan is Still Brighter than the R binned Luxeon with the Fraen !!! I think it may be slightly overdriven off almost new batteries.

AcrylicBallVsFraen.jpg

These are both R bin LED's the one on the left I put an Acrylic Ball in and the one on the right has the Fraen. if you want an intense spot try an Acrylic Ball! This spot was insainly bright with no real spill what so ever, it throws VERY far it is more noticable at a farther distance form the wayy. about 2-3 times as intense as teh Fraen but a much smaller and more squre spot.

Fraen.jpg

Light with the Fraen Optic, Yup, it really is slightly green. And the Beam Is squarish with a circle in the center.

Reflector.jpg

Shot of the light with the modified reflector, this light has the msot work into it. It isn't as green as the other, but Lambda has quite an intensive selection process for his custom built lights, so I get to be the lucky keeper of this reject. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

mmIllPillLuxIII.jpg

My Stepdads Light with Lux III and Ill Pill (SX1J) I was not able to steal it for this test either, but I'll have to do some mroe testing next time I see him. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The Q2K has the smoothest beam, but it is not as bright and has a Yellow color to it. I think it's kinda unique because I have never had a Luxeon that was this yellow before. The center of the beam with the NX05 is a Bluish white and the rest is yellow.

The Cyans Beam is the Worst, I can see the grill in the center, it looks liek the grill with a dot in the middle, but the brightness more than makes up for it...And this was only a P binned! my GF's Q bin as said was Way brighter than mine.

Any questions?

Re: I\'ll Pill Beamshots Here!

Nice!! I like how you chose the Jade MM for the cyan.

Try sputtering a MagAA reflector to use with the cyan even if it is a LD. I sent Hoghead some modified reflectors a while back and he reported that they worked pretty well with colored luxeons and was his preferred choice for his cyan. Look here.

One thing I would like to ask if I may, where the heck did you get a Q4G?!?!? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/poke2.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: I\'ll Pill Beamshots Here!

darkzero, Its probably for a HD Cyan, I tried my reflector with it and was not very pleased, it was O.K I guess, but much better with the NX05, mine has a little bubble in the lense, and so does my G/F's so If they made a good one for a LD then it would be a must. I cut the reflector so it jsut fits around the dome of the LED. I'm not sure if I did this right, but it took my 3 tried to get it right! and on the 4th one I scratched it right as I was finishign it up. But I have the process down pat now! I was just drilling them too big, I thoguht I wanted it to fit around the LED's plastic holder, but quickly learned that I could not get the reflectors to seat that far down into the light.

I got the Q4G from future as part of a Luxeon Star-O. I have another one here, But I burnt it out when I was testing the circuit for my ATV (Dumb Idea! I didn't know much at the time) A few of the crystals still light up on it though lol.. It was Really Bright at 1 amp for about 20 seconds /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The Cyans remain the brightest 1 watts I have sceen, they appear brighter than my R bin Red's. I have yet to purchase a red-orange, but that mod is coming soon, I just need to pickup a Red and and Orage (if i can find it) MM /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I was also thinking about purchasing a HD Lux III blue, I had a set that were really bright at 350ma, about (5-6)/9ths as bright as it was at 1 amp. Considerably brighter than the 2 Blues I toasted a while back.

Re: I\'ll Pill Beamshots Here!

I cut a bit more off my reflectors. A few others cut theirs so the end height of the reflector is around 9.5mm and then they open up the hole to size. I make mine .360"/9.15mm and after I cut it to that height the hole left (after deburring) is about the size of the black plastic around the emitter, no further drilling needed. I have it so the bottom of my reflector sits about the same level as the top of the black plastic around the emitter. Although I made these for HDs, Hoghead reported that they work not too bad with LDs. Of course not nearly as good with HDs and he was probably testing it on a LD with a sputtered one. I believe his cyan sandwich is a LD too.

I'll throw in a sputtered MagAA "second" reflector with your MagC/D sputtered reflector for you to try. It's a "second" cause it might have a small knick in the reflective coating or a blemish here and there but it won't affect the beam at all. You'll probably barely even notice it as being a "second" when installed in the light. Try it with the cyan. If it works good then great, if not use it for something else or toss it. Don't forget to let me know how it did. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinser2.gif

Re: I\'ll Pill Beamshots Here!

If you have any "seconds" left on AA reflectors when you get around to shipping my C/D sputtered reflectors could you drop one or two in?

I'd like to play with them..willing to compensate..material or cash.

Re: I\'ll Pill Beamshots Here!

Thanks DarkZero!

I'll be sure to let you know how it goes, maybe take some beamshots. Hopefully it won't be raingin so I can use teh garadge door next time.

Re: I\'ll Pill Beamshots Here!

I measured my Stepdads Lux III (SX1J) tonight in the Ill Pill

IT WAS A WHOLE LEVEL BRIGHTER THAN MY R Binned LUX I's!!!!!!I keep hearing that underdriving a Lux won't be bright, and that you need a T binned Lux III to compair to a Q binned Lux I...NO Fin WAY! His Lux III is way underdriven is an S bin and is still brighter than my R binned LUX I's driven near spec! The color is also Way better!

I guess there really is little point in purchasing Lux I's anymore, unless he just got a super S bin Luxeon but it is doubtful since I have another SX1J in my maglight 3C and they are both very bright! Oh yea and his was tested on USED batteries not new ones like those that were in mine.
