I love Incans so much I'm willing to compromise..

I have an EO1, but I just can't like it. The BROWN output from my Solitaire is somehow so much more lovable.
:sigh:

I especially like incandescent lights and warm white lights for outdoors and camping. I often use incandescent lights still because I just find them to be cozier. :candle: I've got a Warm White 4Sevens Preon that has replaced my Solitaire. I put the Preon 1 Battery tube on it and it is my favorite light right now because of the perfect warm tint that comes close to feeling like I'm using an incandescent.

Here's another combo I'll tempt you with then. :p

(you'll notice CPF is very good at egging you on, no matter what you ask for :D We aim to please :D)

Get a Surefire E1e, in exotic finish if you want. Depending on how hard you work to find one, they can be had in normal HA Nat, HA Black, Type II satin gray and Type II wine color (as the Winelight).

Then...
http://www.lumensfactory.com/product_details.php?id=23&cid=5&sid=&page=1

Off to LF to buy the EO-E1R, for 90 (bulb) lumens and 60 output lumens OTF. You must use R123s. Normal R123s are fine, you do not need IMR cells.

As per mfg datasheet, Runtime (RCR123A): ~30 min

It has a nice round spot too. I have one in an E1W Winelight.

Your compromise will come in the form of size, as the E1e is somewhat fatter and chunkier than the E01. However it's not impossible to keyring carry, I have done so for six years already.. longer than I've been on CPF!

Alternatively if you do not need blazing light output, I believe the original MN01 lamp is 15 (OTF) lumens, 90 minutes.

I really like the E1E.

I don't like how it's $80 for a flashlight with the capabilities of an E1E. :thumbsdow

I've been waiting for the right one in the marketplace.

Dark room test with my borrowed light meter.

In terms of Lux, a Solitaire puts out 110, where my EO1 only puts out 98. That's a whole 12 more!

Not enough that I can see it, but it makes me feel a little bit less crazy.

It's actually not bad that the 22 year old light still has something on the brand new design. Incans are fun!

Ah, the Surefire price premium. But where else would you find something as capable and incandescent?

Me I love my Pocket Rocket - 700 (LED :D) lumens in something a bit bigger than an E1e, but that wouldn't fit your requirements :)

Never going back to my Solitaires! Carried 'em for a few years......my next upgrade was actually an E1e and from there the rest is history.

As for price/performance, when are you building your ROP? :D

I have some of the ROP parts actually..

Yes, the Surefire premium is one I'm pretty happy to stomach. Batteries, not so much. CR123s are getting annoying, and I only have 17670s right now, so I'd have to get an E2e.

(Of course, this won't fill my want for a powerhouse tiny light, so I'll have to buy RCR123s and an E1e soon after)

Oh, the batteries. Yes, rechargeables are the way to go....

Look for AW in the Dealer's Corner of the Marketplace. Best rechargeables that you can buy.

BTW, for the ROP, use his IMR batteries and not the regular 'black label' ones. The IMRs are much better for ultra-high-power applications.

Speaking of high power apps, wait till you TRULY get addicted and start acquiring an interest in the ultra-high-power builds. We're talking 100W class and thereabouts. Not only will you be able to see the sail, you will be able to see everybody else's sails, blind them, and make them think the sun is rising in the East :p

I am working on one right now.....addictive is the word!!! Power starts at 3500 lumens!
