I want to give my wife, Vera, a good light in incan like a SureFire Executive E2E for her to carry in her work bag. Do ladies in general like the E2E? Or another light?

Purpose one: I want to give my wife, Vera, a good light in incan like a SureFire Executive E2E for her to carry in her work bag. Do ladies in general like the E2E? Or another light?

What will she be using it for? What kind of ambient light is she likely to encounter? What features will she find important (e.g. I could get my girlfriend to happily carry any light I suggest, so long as it is purple)?

If the light is going to be used mostly as she walks to and from her car, then an E2d would probably be a better choice.

If the light will be used in areas with lots of ambient light, a stock E series light may not be bright enough. In areas where there is very little ambient light, a stock single stage E series may be brighter than desired.

I want her to have a sturdy light she can use at any time for walking to the car, finding her keys, bopping annoyances in the forehead, etc. It will be city use mostly, something she would not be embarrassed to carry in a purse. It could be running on rcr123a's, so we can put in an better bulb if available. The problem is I do not know much about incans.

how about an ultrastinger or magcharger 1160 for work

I seem to remember you mentioning that you already own an E2d LED (or some other E2* model). Does she like it? I know it's not an incan, but it seems to otherwise fit the stated requirements for your wife. Have you considered giving that light to her and focusing your budget and search on an incandescent torch for yourself?

Some observations. First, a Surefire 6P is a pretty bright little light. Second, you want this light to fit in a purse. Getting something brighter than a 6P in a purse may be something of a challenge. Third, for walking to the car and finding keys, either a 6P or an E2E should work pretty well.

Question. If you arent familiar with incans, why are you sure you want one? By comparison to leds, incans are fragile. Not only that, but they burn out.

Suggestion. For the uses you mention, I would consider a high powered led like an MC-E driven with an 18650. There are some very nice custom lights in this format or there is also the Malkoff flashlight + a Malkoff drop in--about the size of a 6P.

I had some of the thoughts of WL above. My question, can you wait a month or so? The reason that I ask is that SureFire is currently in the process of updating some of their LED flashlight lineup, and the new two-cell SureFire LX2 is slated to be released very shortly (their other lights seem somewhat further out - i.e. don't hold your breath). It is looking to be a serious winner, especially if you intended to go with a SureFire. Just thought I'd throw that out there, if I needed a good light (and didn't have a good selection already, LOL) I'd be waiting to get that one.

I used a SF 6P at work but it is not bright enough. I tried a Pelican and a StreamLight Led. They work as they were designed to do the job but can't carry the load under foggy or inclement weather. It's time for some incan in our life.

Ok, drop a P91 in it and use 2x16340 IMRs. Output problem solved, period.

I want to give my wife, Vera...

Your wife is named VERA??? Is your name Norm-do you hang out at Cheers???LOL

A Magcharger would be a great light with a 1160 or a Phillips 5761 bulb-but a bit on the heavy side for a woman(but not for a real man-:nana:).

get a E2e and run 2x AW's red IMR-16340 cells and pop in a LF IMR-E2 lamp assembly (350 lumens) for a small, slim, versatile light that can easily fit into a purse and ruin anyone's night vision!

Jaywalk3r- Good idea. You have hit the nail here. I am considering giving Vera the E2DL for her bag and building a couple of lights for work.

William- I like leds, have been using them for years now. What makes me look to incans now is the nature of incans- they seem to give less light, but the incan light is better to see with, especially with dangerous animals, at night in the forests and bush. Incans show movement better; incans show big and small animals faster and farther away than a comparable led. Someone else put it better and I am quoting here from memory: "Incan light is better and faster for the human eye to process for information about the environment you are looking at." What this means to me is that I will see european boars, bears, wolves, coyotes, and cougars clearer and faster. I don't care if incans eat batteries quickly if they are rechargeables anyway. And I will be using leds anyway for other tasks.

My first E series light just came in today, an HA E2E Executive Elite. I actually only really ordered it because I wanted to play with and compare the IMR-E2 bulb that mark sent me for evaluation. I'm really glad I picked this thing up now (wasn't really all that tremendously excited about getting one to be honest)... I didn't realize how dramatically smaller these things are compared to a "C" series light. The feel in hand is amazing, and the stock 60 lumen bulb on a pair of SF primary cells is easily as useful outdoors as any ~100 lumen LED handheld I have used. The IMR-E2 bulb didn't work at first (contact problem). I rectified the situation with a shim cut and drilled from a beer bottle cap and now it works just fine.

I figure about 15 minutes runtime on this bulb/battery combo, but the output to size ratio is certainly inspiring.

If I were using this platform to make a "wife-light" I think I would still use a pair of IMR16340s, but probably step down to a more practical bulb as far as power consumption/heat/runtime is concerned. The IMR-E2 warms this thing up awfully fast. An EO-E2R would probably be perfect....

One catch though.. The tail-cap is of course, a push/click style and is of course very exposed for best use in hand. In a purse, given the rather large quantity of "stuff" that women tend to carry around, I would want to make sure that the female companion unit was properly informed that the positioning within the purse is important to prevent the purse from going up in flames at an in-opportune time. I would not be surprised, considering the proximity of the bulb to the front of the light, that this thing could be a quick fire-starter if left on in a confined space with one of the performance lamps, even the stock lamp for that matter. Using the clip, the light should be vertically mounted somewhere where the tailcap is not likely to be depressed as the purse is shuffled about, alternatively, or in conjunction, using the lockout feature wouldn't hurt- accept that this would have the negative side effect of the light not being as "ready" for action when removed.

I just tested the "fire" theory with an IMR-E2
With the bezel at a 45 degree angle against a piece of dark newspaper, smoke started rising in just 3 seconds, after 10 seconds, ample smoke was rising and the beginnings of a smoldering process were setting in.
