Infinity Task Light

IMO, the original Infinity Task Light is the best reading-in bed light there is . Ultras (much to their credit in most circumstances) are too bright for in-bed reading, but the Tasklight is perfect. Of course, the build quality and 41 hr. runtime ice the cake.

Just bought my second one from Vicomptel.com, and Cyrus Hung there provides superior customer service. My order was a bit delayed with USPS due to the holiday rush, and Cyrus followed up at every turn till my Tasklight arrived. He even called my local post office to inquire as to status! Highly recommended.

I agree. I have two Infinites - one white and one blue/green. The white especially is an ideal night reading light. The long run time is particularly welcome when power lines are knocked down by storms. These lights look as if they were made to last a lifetime. I hope its true since they've been discontinued, which I think was a mistake.

A white Ultra is my EDC (though I also take along something more powerful as well at night), but I have three Task lights (one white and two red; can't find the white one at the moment). I should find the white one and try it out as a reading light. I've been using an Energizer light that uses two small fluorescent bulbs (just use one bulb when reading). Even with just one bulb, it seems a bit bright for reading.

For reading in bed, yellow is nicer than white. All these lights have too narrow a hot spot though. McLux/McFlood is my favorite.

I've got to agree about the Task Light. It seems to offer just the right amount of light for reading in the dark.

Actually, if this is the four AA 'little clone' of the four D cell powered dual four watt Energizer camp lantern (which actually is flourescent), your light is LED. Note the LEDs at the hinge end, the tubes are just that, tubes with plastic domes in the far ends.

At least both mine are, one of them even has an 'off color' LED on one side. Close to 60 mA on fresh battery IIRC, as you say mighty bright for some things. IMO one side should be set up at far lower current. I changed the resistor out in one of mine, making is 12 to 15 mA on 'low', closer to the Infinity.

I took a close look at my Energizer camp lantern, and it is, in fact, LED as you surmised (I'm happy about that). Thanks for pointing that out. I saw these lights at Office Depot recently for only $3.29 (I recall paying more than that for mine somewhere else awhile back). I might just pick up another one.

I've been running mine on Energizer AA lithiums with no problems. Actually, I've been running my Task and Ultra lights with them for awhile with no ill effects so far (I know there's another thread about lithiums vs. alkalines).

I saw them at office depot, too. this might be a good time to pick up another one, since energizer lists them as "obsolete" on their website. (under "energizer flashlights" option)
