Better dig up some IR LEDs so I can test the glasses. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
 
He has the UV spectrum glasses as well but those didn't sound quite as interesting as the IR.

Will these provide any IR protection what so ever?
 
I won and paid for two pairs. I'll give a report once I try
them out. He give a full 30 day warranty. Thats what i'm banking
on.

I'll preface this by saying I might be wrong, that said.
Before you bought them did you wonder how the infrared is converted into visible light. Sounds like those X-Ray glasses that are or use to be advertised in the back of magazines. I strongly suggest all of you read up on P.T.Barnum's philosphy concerning the buying public.
 
Actually they will work a little bit. The iddea is to eliminate most visible light. So you eyes can dark adapt. But leave just the edge near IR. And since eyes vary from person to person, some might be more sensitive to IR.

Be sure and try them out side in bright sun light. These need a lot of Ir to work, so only sun light will do the trick. Even partly cloudy will not work as well.
 
All these glasses do is filter out visible light. So, if you go into a pitch black rom and wait 40 minutes for your eyes to be dark adapted, can you see the 808nm beam? If no, then the glasses won't do anything. If yes, then expect the glasses will dim it down further.
 
Ok, I got these yesterday, I want to say they work, but I'm not positive. They are very hard to see through until your eyes adjust might I say. The reason I think these work, is that when I look at normal lights that are unfiltered, the ir from them appears bright and more purple. But when I point my 60mw at my wall, I can't even see the dot, even though it's way brighter, until I get very close to the wall. The I can see a small dot which is very dark redish colored. This leads me to believe it's viewing the true ir output, being that our lasers have a lot of the ir filtered out.

Wish I had an 808nm diode to really test it, as the output from a remote isn't close to being powerful enough to transfer the light through, judging by output from a laser.
 
You have to understand that the ir appears to be transmitted, however to pass the film it has to emit more energy than a wimpy remote diode. I am getting an 808nm diode and will tell you what I see.
