Here's an idea.

When you first switch on your torch, it has a boosted high output for a predetermined time, say 10 secs, followed by a gradual dimming to a lower output level.

Similar efffect to dying battery, rested for a while.

Possibly two way switch on, to choose this, or normal setting, by twist / click selection.

Why? To give best battery RT.

Alternative use, as a child / adult nightlight, dimming to very low output.

This is kinda what the MagLED seems to do as the LED module heats up and the thermal protection kicks in. Whether by design or by accident, the result is pretty useful IMO -- great runtime and decently bright at power-up.

Yes, Mag's MagLED design is one of the best, IMO. Wonder why more manufacturers don't include a feature like this.

General purpose lights are very often used just for a brief time. In burst mode, if you will - for spotting something at a distane, for briefly scoping out a large area, etc.

Typical usage of this kind naturally lasts for a few seconds up to a few minutes. Why not automatically double the long-term, steady-state output during burst mode usage?

Petzl does something like this, in a more sophisticated way, by including a time and temp limited burst mode on the Tikka XP headlamp. It is activated by pressing a button, but the basic idea is similar to Mag's: allow much higher output briefly, while emitter temperature permits it.
