Inova X1 UV ???

Just ordered an Inova X1 UV. Anybody have one of these? Just wondering what you guys thought of these? I also ordered a white X1, I realize these have a tight beam but they look cool and I had to have one. Thanks folks!! Doug /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I've got one. . . the beam is fairly tight, just like the visible light X1's. They're not as "bright" as some higher voltage models, but I've always been a fan of the X1, and was not disappointed with the UV model. It's nice to have a UV that is so compact and will work with a common AA battery; plus, it's built like a tank, as X1 fans on the forum will tell you. If you've never owned an X1, some people hate the tight beam with no sidespill, and some really like it (like me). Enjoy. . .

Alas. . . I never obtained a UV version of the ARC. Nor a red one, another of my favorite flashlight colors. Pardon my pause as I feel sorry for myself. . . Okay, all done. I've got a bunch of UV LED lights, and I find that voltage seems to have a direct correlation to "brightness", as you might expect. My Inova X5 UV seems to put out the most energy, I assume because it is a 6 Volt and has multiple LED's. I also have a 3AA UV flashlight that is not quite as bright, followed by a 2AA that is not real impressive at all for it's size. I also have a couple of the County Comm UV squeeze light that are not real powerful but are still impressive for their size (and only $5!!). If you're looking for good energy output with LEDs, the X5 is my fav. For common battery powered lights or compactness, the X1 is a great bet, I think.

are you going by visible light my 7 led 385nm uv light
makes things glow a lot better than my x5t 5 led 400nm
light did. the x5t lookes brighter but is not as effective

No, markdi, I'm referring to the brightness with which it makes items flouresce. That's why I enclosed "brightness" in quotes, but I can see where that's not real clear, so sorry about that. I would expect that the Inovas (and all the other UV LED lights I currently have) to be closer to the 400nm range, as they were not too expensive. Lower wavelength LEDs are more expensive. I would also expect lower wavelengths to be "brighter" in that they would cause a greater level of flourescence in a given substance, but dimmer in that the amount of visible purple light would be somewhat less. To get really low wavelengths (at least without spending a fortune), a compact flourescent bulb light like those sold at many lapidary shops is probably still the best bet.

I thought I may be able to sell my ARC AAA UV when I got my X1UV...but I just can't bring myself to get rid of my last ARC UV! They're both keepers!!

I've been thinking about getting one of these - I'm dying to hear your impressions of it. It seems like it might be pretty good for hunting scorpions - the zero spill spotlight properties of the X1 might really be handy in a UV light.

I received my Inova X1 UV late yesterday afternoon.
If there is any specific comparison you'd like me to do, just ask and I'll see what I can do. Within reason, of course.

What I'm really curious about is how effective it is at making stuff glow at a distance, especially in the dark. I've got a Peak 7 LED UV light, and it's really good, but it doesn't have a lot of throw. (Although it's just insanely bright for what it is.)

So I'm curious at a distance of between 10' and 20' which one is more effective, the X1 or a multi-led uv light? (say 3-7 leds, something like that). My thought is the X1 might be fairly effective at spotting scorpions while walking. The spotlight qualities of the X1 optic makes it kind of useless as either a close-up working light (spot is too small), or as a walking light (zero spill). But where the spot hits, it really looks a lot brighter than it actually is. This might be perfect for making small stuff at a short distance fluoresce.

The lack of spill might be helpful here, because it ought to cut down on stray light from the fluoresence of your own garments. I watched a scientist from A&M hunting scorpions once - she used a giant fluorescent blacklight tube (30" long maybe), and I spotted her at least 200' away, in the woods, because her clothes were emitting a brilliant, but eerie blue glow. (It *freaked me out* at the time! Thought I was having an X-Files moment as the eerie blue glow approached me through the woods... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/faint.gif)

Er, how well does it light up body stains? Purhaps a comparison with some other lights around your favorite dunking spa? You know the spa, it has the one wirlpool jet

You're right, the lack of uv sidespill is one of the best reasons to get this light. Is there any visible purple beam?
