Have a couple of your modules and am impressed by the forethought that went into their production. It would seem to me to be prudent on your part to begin investigating (if you haven't already) the introduction of a similar regulated adapter incorporating the newer generation LED(s) such as produced by Luxeon. There are already a myriad of efforts in this direction as I believe you are aware which, in my opinion lack the overall engineering expertise manifested in the Opalec Newbeam.

Your thoughts on this?

I will be posting this inquiry on CPF which, I hope, will generate a number of user/customer opinions.

Well they've got a proven product. If their current quality would carry over to the newer adapters, I'd be interested. Don't see why it wouldn't be a hit.

May I suggest that in your letter you actually spell out Candle Power Forum and include the URL. We all know about the forum, but the person reading your message may not.

"Thanks for your kind words of confidence.

We get a lot of messages asking this question or variations of it. Our
answer is: Yes, we are are working on things, both new products and
enhancements to the existing NewBeam design. We are intriqued by the
Luxeon and other higher power LEDs and we are working with them. But
it would be premature to announce anything at this point. We had fully
functional prototypes of the NewBeam in field test for almost two years
before we released it. This is probably too slow a pace for the fast
moving LED busines, but we tend to work this way. Sorry to be so vague
about what's coming.

We are as interested as anyone in how the 5mm vs. higher power LED
comparison will shake out. 5mm may fare better than it seems. There
are plenty of examples, from the component level on up, of electronic
products long since eclipsed technically, but still useful, appropriate
in their place, and sold in very high volume.

Although we have chosen not to post on the CPF, we admire the
collective wisdom and fiendish work of the group very much! We thank
them for their support. We appreciate all feedback, whether as posts
to the Forums or individual emails to Opalec.
