I have had this drop-in for well over a year, and it is an excelent light. But it is fragile.

The lens, collimator, whatever you call it- the clear plastic piece that fits over the pill and nests into the head cap- has a thin lip around its outer circumference that holds it in place against the head cap.

That lip is what breaks when you drop the light. And I'm not talking about throwing it off the roof of your house.

The first time, it fell about two feet onto pile carpet. The lip cracked in one place, and within a few days of using the light it had cracked enough to fall out.

Just now, it fell off my desk; about 2.5 feet onto industrial-grade carpet. The lip broke off halfway around, and the lens plopped right out. What a bummer.

OTOH, my Opa-Lec has been dropped onto hardwood floors, banged against a sheetrock wall, and generally abused by my grandson; with nary a ding.

Guess I need to get another one of those... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

well i broke two of them inretech lens, and one opalec black collar thing, min was an older design, but the opalec is stronger but will still break.. The inretechs seem too fragile...

The inside diameter of the MAGLITE seems to vary from flashlight to flashlight, and the lens "falls out"

I have THROWN a couple of our flashlights down on hard concrete- and the force was so great that it caused the positive terminal of the batteries to depress itself into the case, but the adapter/lens was fine

Perhaps, but these two instances of breakage were on the same MM. The fit was just fine; until that thin lip broke, plain and simple, and the plastic adapter, or whatever, was no longer held in place.

I can still use it for a candle, I suppose...

I'm not really visualizing what's breaking here, but couldn't you just use the original MM lens to hold the Inretech optic in place?

Don't think so (the addition of the issue lens would make the assembly too thick) but its worth a shot: IF I still have the broken piece.

I think I chunked it... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon3.gif
