Hi, I am new, thanks for the forum.

I have been looking for a light and saw PLW and eternalight products. I have no clue on which is better. I would like smaller size and use aa batteries, any amount. Probably want a 1 battery one to carry and a multi for home.

I prefer a button to turn on but thats not in stone. Some look junky some cost too much for me right now. The eternalight is neat but are all those frills worth it.

any pointing in the right direction appreciated.

RC - go to one of the review sites - namely Craigs LEDMUSEUM, Chris´s site, Brock´s site, Quickbeam´s site - bunch of reviews there. They are all members here and their sites URL are in their respective SIGs.

But to make it easy - if you want the best go to ARCflashlight - the ARC AAA and ARC LS will probably fit your bill perfectly right.

Ups and yes - wellcome !

For one battery carry light, the arc will be the overwhelming recommendation, although it's triple A, not double A.

The Arc-AAA is without a doubt the best single LED light on the market. It uses inexpensive AAA batteries, and gives 5 to 6 hours of full bright light, before it switches to a low level light. It is current/voltage regulated.

The Eternalight is my favorite smaller, multi LED flashlight. I agree about all of the extra 'special effects' modes, but the 9 different levels of brightness are nice. They run on regular AA batteries (3 of them) and give very good full power burn time: 40 to 50 hours on the highest brightness setting, and up to 700 hours on the lowest setting. I like them enough to own 4 of them.

Are there any dealers that sell the arc and the eternalight? Maybe I will try one of each. Thanks

Chris´s site

Thanks for the reccommendation, but I wouldn`t bother going there if I were you- my current site is obsolete. The new one should be along within a fortnight if my f****** computer doesn`t break down completely before then.

Anyone got an unwanted 2-4Gb IDE hard drive, or 64megs of the old 72 pin Ram they want to donate to a good cause?

Oh, sorry, what I meant to say is- I agree with them lot. The Arc-AAA is tremendous- so small, so bright, and a customer service policy most buyers can only dream of.

The Eternalight (I like the Xray for it`s blinky locator/nightlight feature) is also a good`un for a brighter light, though the fancy strobe/dazzle/blink modes are next to useless to me. And if you get the Model 4, watch where you stick it- my magnet came unstuck and it fell to the floor with a bump in the middle of the night. Scared the goodness-knows-what out of me, it did

If you don`t need dimming or blinky-ness settings, the Trek 4 is a nice one. It`s very tough and bright (ABS body/Lexan head), waterproof, 3AA cells- but you may find the length a bit much. It`s longer than a Mini-maglite by about an AA battery`s length. It`s also another twist head light.
The Flashled range by LEDtronics are OK and have a pushbutton, but they can get a bit spendy and are not as bright as some. There`s also another 3 N cell thing by Aitec that Lifestyle Fascinations sell. That one`s nothing special and it`s almost as long as the Trek 4, but it has a pushbutton too and is a bit brighter than the Flashled.

I would recommend the Arc AAA LE. It is small, lightweight, bright for its size, and eats readily available AAA cells

. Besides, it looks good too.

My recomendation, like most of the others, would be the ARC AAA for EDC. For more light with AA's, the Eternalight. I understand the new one is great, but if you can't lay out the big bucks, I found the Marine model with lithium's for $30 each, shipped (had to buy 2 for that price. About $36 for one). TX

I also am an Eternalight devotee/converter. My Arc LS is my favorite LED light but after buying the Eternalight model 4 X-ray, I find that has become my most used light simply due to it's convenience. I'd say you can't go wrong with an Arc AAA and an Eternalight, unless you need mega-LED power, then forget AA lights.
