I am considering sending a care package via UPS from here in the northeast US to the Grand Cayman Island. I was wondering roughly how much that would cost me. The package would not be huge and relatively lightweight, probably around five pounds.

I figure enough of you have shipped flashlights overseas so you might have some knowledge on this subject.

You should really also consider USPS Global Express Mail (EMS). This will probably be cheaper than UPS or FedEx and still offer online tracking and insurance. You can check the shipping cost here.

Wow, the cheapest from the link (thanks) is $22. But when I went to the UPS site and calculated the shipping cost, it came out to $95!

That's the problem for us international folks, the big names in the business charge an arm, a leg, and other miscellaneous (but vitally important) body parts. I both ship and receive, being outside the US. 160+ packages outbound thru my local PO and counting...!

USPS is the best value for money - at least their Global Express / Global Priority offerings, the rest is just slow and gets lost in the mail. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

GX/GPM was outsourced to FedEx, which may explain why it never misses the boat. GPM's actually USPS' best kept secret, because you can now ship small things for a FLAT RATE of $5, AND get priority treatment, as long as it will go into the envelope. Bigger things can go by the $9 flat rate envelope, I succeeded in stuffing a 2D Maglite into one as a test the other day..
