Were you able to screw down the tail switch assembly all the way down? I can't see how this can be done without doing some modification to the area around the spring.

1) Did you have to over-bore the battery tube to accommodate the CR-2 batteries?

2) Could you please elaborated on the novelty of the emitter mount/heatsink subassembly that you are using in order to accommodate the 2mm (?) longer battery stack?

Kev, hearing such kind words from Da Master hisself is heartwarming indeed.

Brad-alike, yeah but the circuit would be bypassed and the light would be running in Direct Drive. Certainly bright, but unknown what kind of damage to the BB750 circuitry you'd be doing.

Roy, not a problem. All same dimensions inside.

Frog, the switch's contact coil is cut down, plus I changed the tailcap o-ring to a thicker one.

Ike & Pie, yes and yes.

Percs, no and no.

Actually based on e-mail queries I may indeed start selling these, but on the condition that you get your own 30mm's (I don't have a supply) and get it turned down yourself. I'd cut down the stock reflector though, so you'd have something to use out of the box.

Hmmm...

I have a Legend LX, a Fraen narrowbeam optic (that fits the head perfectly without requiring any machining), a bin V3U 5-watter, and can get the batteries.

I lack the heatsink. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Any chance you'll sell copies of the heatsink you created to those of us that have the entire rest of the project? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Probably not, as there are only a couple of them in existence right now (all made by hand out of aluminum stock, I have no machine tools) and they are both in the only two completed LG5s at the moment. Taking a (long) breather before I make a third -- if there ever is one. Too much metalworking, and all by hand. Gotta find me a new machinist.

Aaaanyway, I just (literally about an hour ago) stuck a 1w cyan Luxeon into one of the Legend LXes I have here, using the body as the heatsink junction instead of the head. A write-up will be forthcoming. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Okay I did try different optics with this LG5 mod, and first of all the NX-05 is a no-no. Small wide diffuse and DIM beam output. So I tried every version of the Fraen (I have samples of the whole line):

The three in the top left corner are all narrow beam (6°) versions. Still not comparable to the EL 30mm optic.


But the best development/discovery made was that the Dorcy Spyder soft-touch switch FITS THE LEGEND LX with three CR2 batteries inside and no modifications to the switch are necessary whatsoever:

Also shortens it by about 3/8th".


Now I have two LG5's with soft-touch switches and that same bright output via 30mm optics... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Great discovery Charlie. Does the tailswitch from the Spyder have a watertight seal when attached to the LX?
