I love caving, and that is how I became interested in modifying lights. So, here is my first headlamp. It has a 5w LS and 30mm optics. I hope to do another one that has another switch and several 5mm nichias so I can have more than one brightness option. But, tell me if there is an uglier headlamp. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Sorry to disappoint, but I see a certain beauty in your solution to the problem of getting the heat out of a plastic headpiece. I am assuming that is a slab of copper that I am seeing in your photos.
 
Yes, it is copper. It seems to work really well. I am going to do some test to see how hot it gets, other than just feeling it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif
 
I used to have the same light. Dunno what happened to it. I still have a very similar light designed for a single 3.6 volt Lithium D-cell or an optional AA holder (that I do not have /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif ). I think you can still buy a similar light from www.lightingpro.org

I also like the copper "cooling fin" /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

not sure what you meant by "from below" but here is a picture from about 6 feet.

This is a picture from the same place vs a petzl zoom with a halogen bulb and new batteries. As you can probably guess the zoom is on the left. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif IMHO the zoom does not quite compare. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Question, BS. Clearly you are not just running with 4 D cells in that battery holder. What are you using as the power supply and what electronics, resistive ballast, etc., if any? Ugly?, once covered with mud, headlamps are only distinguished by the light they put out.
 
Currently, it is running on 6AA with 2.2 ohms of resistance. Tomorrow afternoon it will be running on 10AA Ni-MH batteries with a powerpuck. I am going to use 2 6AA battery holders with 2 dummy cells. It should all fit in the 4D battery holder. I have considered using 2 battery holders and 8D's but that might get as big as a gel battery (which I was trying to avoid in the first place).
