I was hoping some of our battery guru's could assist here...

I was given a new 30GB iPod recently... I would like to give it to my brother at Christmas 2007.

Will I be doing any harm to the Li-Ion battery by letting it sit in the box for 11 months ?

It is brand new and never been opened.

Thanks !!!

I'm sure someone will recommend charging it at least once. If that is not possible, the battery in the iPod is user serviceable... if you figure it out. The sell kits with the battery, etc.

if its never been used and its in the box there should be a dry charge on the cell...assuming its a LiPO [or lithium polymer], so with any other rechargeable ranging from NIMH to LA. Dry charge is provided during the manufacturing process but if you had not touched it the battery is under a "storage" condition and will not be harmed. If you have charged it before than cap off the battery before long term storage would probably be the best suggestion.

Hope this helps, Cheers:rock:
