There seems to be a spate of childish individuals joining up and posting this last week.

Suggestion.

Limit the number of posts that can be made to say one or two per day, until you've been a member for a couple of weeks, or made say 20 posts.

That way, Moderators have time to kill inappropriate posts before too many are posted in any one day, by any newbie individual.

(It's a pity though that all newbies would suffer for the antics of a very few.)

And if necessary, ban.

Well for me it is... Actually I work at one and we have off today and tomorrow, as a whole we opted to take off for presidents day on thursday and the presidents birthday on friday.

Re: Is it school holidays in USA ?

There was one who joined today and straightaway made 14 posts in the space of just a few minutes. I only saw one of the posts - it didn't make any sense and I ignored it, thinking the poster must be either drunk or juvenile. Maybe some of his other posts were abusive or offensive in some way, but whatever the case, he was jumped on very quickly by B@rt, who removed all his posts and banned him. The system worked well.

+1

The moderators always seem to be there when needed.

If you see something that you think a moderator or administrator should know about, click on the triangle up by the post # and report it.

Or, better yet, why not close the site and charge a heft price for admission? Sure there'd be fewer posters but you'll be able to sleep better secure in the knowledge that your elitist little club was safe from the newbies.

Re: Is it school holidays in USA ?

he's not talking about newbies, he's talking about spammers and those that wear their back ends proudly as a hat for all to see.

You might not be aware of how much work it is to keep your boards free of such garbage. There is quite a bit of it and the mods and admins apply constant vigilance so that you can surf here safe from porno adverts, cell phone adverts and worse.

We do that work so that we can keep getting and hearing from Newbies, not so that we can close them out.

So dont worry, yours and everyone else's silly newbie questions are welcomed. We will not lock you out. Unless you get really mad and say inappropriate things ;)

Yes, I spotted him and his 14 posts virtually as soon as he had made them, so I informed Mods, and B@rt did the honours.

At least here in the UK, and Holland, we can sort these things before the rest of you wake up and log on, so you don't get to see the Spam and offensive posts, most of the time.

Examples?

Removed, and to quote would give the perps the oxygen of publicity, bearing in mind that even when banned they can still view.

Not all are banned though, but yes, we owe it to all to report and not enter into off thread discussions, as has happened recently elsewhere on CPF.

Re: Is it school holidays in USA ?

So rather than starting a thread with "Is it school..." maybe it would have been better to start it by referencing a suggesting to what you said above.

I think the thread wouldn't be as "hostile" as it is becoming.

That said. I'm out of this thread.

SO then what's the problem? It gets taken care off.

Yes, by me, for you and 13 others.

Wait till it's your threads that get spammed and taken off target.

It is often the case that threads "becoming hostile" is usually down to just one individual, who feels threatened by the thread, in some way, and has to chip in with a "hostile" opinion.

That's my seeing of the situation anyway.

So, is it school holidays ? Somewhere in the World ?

Cue reposte (No, it's not spelt incorrectly)

Talking about things being led off track, seen this ?

What makes you think they're U.S. based?

The fact that the websites being promoted are US based ?

That's why I asked the question, as the vast majority of contributors are US based.

I could be wrong, as it was a little early, 6am, for US based contributor.

Quite ironic that one series of SPAMMING related to IQ testing, I could have told the postee in one instance what his (her) apparent IQ was !!

Re: Is it school holidays in USA ?

All indications show the originating source as Latvia

Re: Is it school holidays in USA ?

A good percentage of bots seem to originate from someplace in Russia or Eastern Europe. I don't have alot of experience with this sort of thing, but I rarely hear of bots from a more domestic origin.

Re: Is it school holidays in USA ?

An entire generation of American children hereby demand an apology for the disgraceful and unwarranted slur on their character.

Coming soon: a diplomatic protest from the Government of Latvia.

I wasn't giving you a hard time. I just wondered why you geared it at those of us in the states.
