i just decided to try a runtime test on my detuned madmax + adjustable. it has been detuned approximately 25-30%. at the start on fresh alkalines it posts about 300 lux at one meter. i have it in a brinkmann legend.

15 minutes after the start of the test, i walk past and the light is dead. it is also pretty warm.

the bats measure 1.36v each. i test the switch: closed it is right at 1 ohm. open is...open. i take a tailcap switch from my other legend, and it still doesnt light.

hmm. i remove the pill, and directly apply 3v from 2 AA bats...nothing.

uh-oh. am i SOL?

Ps i edited this to sing the praises of these lights. they are AWESOME!

Hmm...Does it smell burnt?
I would try an adjustment of the pot, perhaps there's a dead spot in it?

you know, it does smell burnt.

i guess i could try turning the pot.

strange, huh?

i want to make clear that i am not slamming dat2zip's stuff, nor do i expect any "freebies"--im simply trying to see if prehaps i have missed something, or if anyone has had a similar experience--and maybe a solution.

i am concerned about my other madmax. i fear that i will fry it if i try a runtime test--or simply run it for too long.

Bob,

It does not sound good. One thing that I'd like to know is if there is a burr around the top edge of the board and or if the LED is not flush with the board.

Either of these two cases would cause excessive heating of either the module or the LED.

Also, can you tell if the module has gotten so hot that possibly the battery and spring pressure has collapsed the module. Sometimes you can tell since the two boards are not parallel anymore.

I ask this since they are being built by a outside contract manufacturing and if that is the case, I want to get this fed back to them so that it can be prevented in the future.

wayne, e-mail me a return address, and i gladly will send the sandwich to you for inspection. i think you are far more qualified than i.

i cant detect any abnormalities, however.
