Is this a decent knife?

While I can't tell you for sure, since I can't see who made it ... it looks like a very cheap foreign-made knife. Lemme guess, you paid about $10 for it? If I've pegged it right, it's complete junk (sorry for the upfront observation, but you asked /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif )

Hmm i dont really mind about its value since it does did its job. On the blade, it said "BIG" and there was some kind of mountain design on it. And yep you nailed me. 10$.

Mags,

Cool, if it did what you needed it to do, great. Just don't expect it to hold its edge for long, or for the edge not to dig up easily ... and for sure, be careful how you use it, do not trust your fingers to that lock!

If you're on a budget, there are some reasonably well-made knives that are fairly cheap. Although I haven't used it, I've heard these kabar folders are extremely well-done for $20 (you can probably find them for less, A.G. isn't exactly a discount dealer). 8A still is very good steel for this price, and the overall craftsmanship is supposed to be solid.

Joe's right about the Ka-Bar folders. Bought one for a friend and he almost didn't get it. I was impressed how nice the knife was for $20. Keep in mind I generally carry a $70 to $100 knife around, and I'm thinking about getting another Ka-Bar folder for myself!

Wow, I didn't know about those Ka-Bar folders, they look like a great deal! Too bad that A.G.'s international shipping cost more than the knife itself. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon23.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif

I have been doing research for a good back up knife for my Stainless Spyderco endura and Benchmade Stryker. My research has come up with the KA Bar Dozier Folder as being an ideal for back up and the best $20.00 knife out there. I am going to get one real soon.

Gerber went down the drain after being brought by Fiskars..come to think of it, everything Fiskar touches goes down the drain..(CMG)

Kabar Dozier Folding Hunter is a terrific knife and a great value.

Also consider the Benchmade Monochrome, about twice the cost of the Dozier but a fine low-cost knife.
