I\'ve got lathe too

FINALLY I received my lathe, for the last 5 hours I was cleaning the protective gunk with kerosene.

My first impression, I need a taller table /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif at least a meter high, my back is hurting bad.

Unit description

A nice detail is the acrylic chuck protector, when you put it up it stops the unit as a safety measure.

If I have time tomorrow I'll start turning some aluminium.

Hey Pablo, you need to take those pretty guards off or you won't be able to get an arm full of little blisters from the smoking hot little blue curls flying off. One of the thing I DON'T miss from my gunsmithing days! Nice looking lathe- I'm envious!

That does look nice. I had to do a bit of math to see that the bed is 14 inches long. That should be sweet. Welcome to the club. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I especially like the chuck guard. I may need to make one because I've left the key in the chuck several times while truing up the work. It's a heart stopper to see the heavy key zip by.

its like a lever activated switch, it goes in series with the big red security switch.

the other chip guard is somewhat not confortable to use because you have to remove it away if you want to move the tailstock.

I like this Camlock Tailstock mod, is real a beauty (there're more mods in the page)

I bought the Tailstock Camlock kit at LMS and installed it on mine. It took me all of one day to install it. It was definitely worth it.

Hi Wayne,

first thing you figure out that can be improved in the minilathe is the QCTP and a close next is the locking mechanism of the tailstock, but I did not figure that out until I received the lathe, and shipping to argentina is more costly than the unit itself, so I'll try the DIY route.
