JET Beam Pro V3

I just got my first real flashlight but I am having trouble trying to get my settings right. I'm trying to set the first mode at the lightest, then med & brightest. I tried doing what the instructions said but I must be doing something wrong. Can someone help please?

Turn flashlight on.
Half press (momentary press) 3 times in a row in under 1 second.
The light will start to ramp up in brightness.
At any point shut the light off and it will lock in.
Go to next mode and repeat.
