JetBeam III-M Upgradeable

Does anyone know if it is easy to upgrade a JetBeam III-M?
The current stock utilizes the R2 emitter, in the future would other dropins become available, or would an upgrade require the skills of a technical CPF member?

My jet III M always had an off center beam due to the xre dome being slightly off center. I guess the reflector amplifies the problem. I replaced the emitter with various other types (xp-g, xp-e, sst-50) but found that an xp-e R3 worked best. All you need is an xp-e on a 16mm board, and it will basically drop right in (obviously you will need to desolder the old emitter). They don't use any epoxy to mount the board, just thermal paste. Really simple "upgrade". The reflector height shouldn't need to be adjusted, mine was spot on for the xp-e. Although it depends on how thick the emitter board that you choose, in which case, some shimming may be necessary. With the Xp-e you won't notice any gain in throw, but the beam quality will be MUCH better than the ringy/off center xr-e.

I am new to this, so I am understanding that there is an emitter, and there is an emitter board (specific to the flashlight). Is this correct so far? I am weak with soldering and desoldering, so can I get MilkySpit to do this?

Would JetBeam sell emitter boards with the upgraded emitter already on it (in your view)? JetBeam is releasing a new R5 III-M, and perhaps that emitter board and emitter would be compatible wuth the R2 III-M flashlight.

The emitter board is not specific to the light. It is just the standard pcb that the emitter comes presoldered to. You can usually order the emitter already mounted on different diameter emitter boards from various suppliers. My experience with jetbeam is that they do not sell the electronic components separately.

If you aren't comfortable doing the upgrade yourself, there are plenty of people who would be willing to do it for you. It's an extremely simple procedure.
