I got a Jet-III M Ti for christmas, bought it on the Marketplace. The light is mint, but unfortunately, it has a preflash.

I don't talk about a little blink here which you only notice if you pay attetion to it, no, it preflashes at full power regardless of the level you programmed. The light would be unusable on low that way.

I did a reset sevral times, doesn't help. The flash is present in both modes while it's not that noticeable at 100% of course. I emailed Jetbeam, they can only tell me to try several things like changing the cells and the switch, no change. I guess the brass ring can't be removed from below, that you have to remove the light engine from the top?

Now I don't want to send the light in, if the preflash doesn't hurt the light, I'll keep it like it is. It doesn't hurt the light, does it?

Does anybody elses' Jet-III M Ti has that brutal preflash?

My Jet 3 Military (not Ti but that plain one) has NOTHING like the flash you describe. As expensive as yours is, I would certainly send it in for replacement.

Prior to contacting Jetbeam, I asked another CPFer with a Jet-III M Ti and his light hasn't got the slightest preflash either.

I also got a Jet-III Pro which hasn't got any preflash and a TC-R3 which has a tiny little one if I looked right while the TC-R3 of the other CPFer has a bigger preflash... :candle:

Seem to be weird, those preflash affairs! :candle:

I own (2) Jet III Ti-M and (1) regular Jet III-M. None have a preflash on a programmed low setting.

I've had mine apart a few times and they need to be taken apart from the bezel. The reflector is proprietary, and different from the regular Jet III-M, so be careful.

I have a TC-R3, it has a pre-flash issue, but only very slightly. The pre-flash's output is about the strength of a Jet-III M's minimum output (i.e. ultra low).

Envy.........
Although I emailed Jetbeam and they're happy to deal with the pre-flash problem, but the cost of postage + the risk of losing it in transition IMO isn't worth sending the in for warranty claim. Which means I'll just have to live with it.
I own a Ti-M and a TC-R3 and no pre-flash or anything like you describe.

Sorry, Henk Lu.

I've got my Jet3M Ti.
But no such thing happens to mine.
Why don't you just send the LE to Jetbeam, and have it fixed.

Hi, berry580.

I have TC-R3 myself, and no preflash problems at all.
Are there many others?

I was thinking this issue might be something specific on the first run as
sometimes minor changes or updates are made on subsequent runs.
My #343,wonder what # Henk_Lu's is ?

Nope, mine is #412...

I just checked the light again, it is like berry described, on al levels a very low preflash, lower than the low setting, not disturbing.

I also have an RRT-2 and that one has no preflash at all. Could it be related to he titanium bodies, as they have no anodization and are conductive everywhere? I don't mean that the titanium is the cause of preflashes, but that the probability is higher to have that issue? As I don't know why some lights have it and some not, I have no idea what the cause is.

Some lights, like the Quarks have a built-in preflash, but that one also seems to vary in intensity from one light to another, perhaps it's some electronic components that cause it and intensity varies with the "quality" of those components?

Jetbeam has offered me as well to contact my dealer and claim warranty, but as Berry also said, the price of the shipping and the related risks of transcontinental operations are to high if only the use of the light is affected. I'll just skeep the light switched on, to avoid preflashes... ;)

......

Its interesting that you raise the point about whether a Ti light is more likely to have this issue.

I have no idea whether this is true or not, but there is certainly a very distinct pre-flash in my Olight M20 Ti when I rotate the head clockwise and then back to change to the low mode.

There is a pre-flash (fraction of a second) as if its going to the high setting and then it settles at the low setting.
