Lightwave 4000 has ten LEDs. Is this for sure a 20-LED light? Interesting....
My take on the battery-size adapters:
If something is designed to run on D cells, it runs on D cells for a reason. Usually because the power draw is too much for smaller batteries to efficiently deliver their energy. I find it hard to believe something made for a D cell would happily be powered by an AAA using a nest of adapters, as they are often advertised as being capable of doing.
It may also be for extended run-time and this is the main reason I believe lights like the LW4000 use the big ones, so they may run on smaller ones just fine, but not for so long.
Having not tried a LW4000 on anything other than alkaline D cells, I can`t comment on how well it`d do with AAs. Lithiums can deliver a decent amount of power though so I don`t think ten LEDs would have them on their knees in minutes like a large halogen/Xenon lamp would. The LEDs in a LW4000 are not very harshly powered, it`s something like 350mA total draw (I think) so you should get away with AA lithiums for a few hours. If this is not a LW4000 but is definately a 20-LED light, you could be pushing it a bit, but it all depends on how hard the diodes are being driven.
As an emergency-use-only light, it seems like a pretty good idea because of the very long shelf-life of the Lithium cells. I would have chosen something smaller though, as the LW4000 is designed for endurance, hence why it`s so big.
But if you have it, try it. Let us know how you get on!
