Just ordered my last flashlight... Seriously!!!

I just got off the phone with Greg @ BrightGuy and placed an order for a StreamLight SL-35X w/Digital Tail Light Flasher/Dimmer, AC Charger Setup, Dozen of Universal 123 Lithium an oh a Lens for my badly scratched up AA MiniMag...

I am well aware of the size of this light. Obviously it will not be used for EDC. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif The light will probably never leave my property.

Should be here Friday and ready to use Saturday Evening. Maybe I can shoot a couple of Beam Shot Photo's comparing it with my Stinger HP XT and UltraStinger.

You know, that you can use the SL-20x, with the SL-35 bulb assy.

You get the same brightness, just reduced run times.

This is an approved Streamlight modification.

If length is an issue, you might want to consider that option.

Thanks BuddTX - I was aware of that approved modification. I was looking for the bigger battery capacity. That is why I went this route.

Dukestar, you will like your hugh SL35X. I like mine. By the way, you can use 9amp NiMH's in it. Tight fit, but works great. I have older model dimmer on mine, manual turn. First click off high goes to about 20X brightness, then can be turned down smoothly to dim, dim ,dim. I have never charged NiMH's in light, not sure charging circuit in light could take it. Stock 5amp pack is good.

Thanks, I am certain I will like the torch and it will fill my needs greatly. With the Dimmer/flasher digital Tailcap makes the flashlight that much more versitile. Where would one get a 9 amp Nimh Batt Stick? Would Battery Station carry such a beast? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Wilkey mentioned this to me last week when I first ran a thread on the SL-35x. I would imagine that 20 watt halogen would really kick out some serious light but probably shorten the life span of the bulb. I think the bulb is rated at 100 hours so what the heck. Even if you cut that by half you still have a bulb that would probably last you a year of use... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Dukester, I was talking 9 Amp NiMH D cells, button top, individual batteries. The stock SL35X battery pack is 5 D cell NiCd's, rated at 5 Amps, flat top batteries with tabs, shrink wrapped into a stick. www.amondotech.com has button top or tabbed flat top NiMH D's.

Running 20X LA in SL35X will not shorten life of bulb. It will run bulb at spec, drawing about 1.7 amps, compared to 3.5+ anps for 35X LA.

I am sorry but you misuderstood me. I meant to say running a Model SL-35X with the 9amp Battery configuration as you stated would this not shorten the life of a 20 Watt Bulb?

Dukester. 9 amp's would not shorten life of bulb as bulb would still only pull 1.7 or so amps, same as with stock 5 amp battery stick. The voltage would be the same, 6 volts, nominal. 35X LA's and 20X LA's are rated for 6 volt battery configuration.

Ok, I think I understand. So the Bulb would not be any brighter but the 9 amps would give you a bit longer runtime, right?

Dukester, right. I should have made that clearer. 9 amps gives longer run time. You do lose convenience of built in charging, and it does take a long time to charge those 9 ampers up, in most chargers. Let us know how you like you SL35X.

It came right on schedule. It is charging up right now so I won't be able to check it out until tomorrow evening. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I'm getting anxious to check out that Digital Dimmer/Flasher Tailcap. It is pretty neat looking, I see the PC Board inside the tailcap underneath the spring, pretty hi tech.

I probably shoot for photo's on Monday since we have no rain in the forecast. This is a rainy season for all of you familiar with the Great Pacific Northwest and we have rain in the forecast tomorrow and Sunday...

Dukester, I was at the Streamlight warranty shop/store yesterday, and the repair tech said that the 35X LA is robust enough to take added voltage, so I put in 6 C 4.5 amp NiMH's, using a battery reducing sleeve that came with my Blaster V. Light was noticably brighter and current output was the same as with D NiCd battery stick. Plenty of room for 6 C's. I will not use alkaline batteries in the SL35X.

Thanks for the tip on the spare nicad batt stick. I will have to look into it.

I tell you what, this SL-35X is for sure a keeper, boy does it throw some serious light, while it has a real nice flood it's throw is nothing to be ashamed about! I am pretty finicky on throw and I was pleasently surprised on how well it threw. To be honest without comparing side by side I know it will give my Tigerlight a good run for it's money! If I can only figure out how the flasher works on the Dimm/flasher tailcap I will be in business. The dimmer works super cool, just depress the tailcap and the light dims until you let go of the tailcap switch and reach your desired intensity.
