Kel Lite focus?

I have an old Kel Lite 3C which I think was about the first of the al body lights.

It is not very bright compared to a Mag Light. When I put the Mag Light bulb in the Kel Lite, it makes it a little brighter, but it doesn't have the tight spot. It is a fixed focus light.

Why would the different bulb cause the light not to focus as tightly?

I also think the Mag lights are good lights, except for the size.

Most likely the element in the bulb is in a different position then the origonal bulb.
