Or I should say, my oh my those funny Luxeons.....Why are they all so different? I know they're coded into lot bins with different ratings for brightness, tint etc. but how can one be so different from another? Received the KL1 today. Of course without saying the fit, finish and build quality is superb. Very clear optics, very smooth insertion whether mating it to either E1 or E2. Comparing the output to my two best Luxeon lights, a fairly recent Arc LS second and my badboy yellow minimag conversion, the KL1 wins hands down in brightness comparison. The LS and Badboy are very close to each other and the Kl1 is significantly brighter. Hard to tell by the naked eye but I would have to say maybe a third brighter at least in the center hotspot area. But the tint is a different story. The Arc LS has a fairly white hotspot and a slight at least compared to other Luxeon's I've seen, green corona. The badboy has a broad white, perhaps just a touch violet hotspot with a very weak brownish/green corona. The KL1 has a noticeable violet tint across the whole spectrum, particularly on the outer edge of the corona. The tint is almost to the point of being pinkish in color. I must admit I was not expecting the Surefire product to be deviated quite this far off center white. For my personal tastes for brightness I like the Kl1 but for beam quality I think my badboy yellow is still the best. In all three lights the beam deficiencies are much less noticeable in real life applications then in shining them against a white wall and critically examining the beam. I will try to take and post beam shots comparing the three within the next couple of days if people are interested. You've seen an awful lot of beam pictures so probably would be nothing earth shattering.

Thanks for that post, and beam pics would surely be appreciated.

Was just outside using the light. The violetness of the beam is not really apparent in this situation. It clearly outshines the other Luxeon lights. Due to the LED and the ergonomics of the E2 body, this is easily going to be my most used and travel light.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Very nice photo. Looks like super superior illumination over the reg. E1-even tho the hotspot isn't quite as intense. I can see 3x as much area in that photo. Looks like a winner to me.....

That is unacceptable!, let me get that piece of junk of your hands, I`ll even throw some money in lets say $10 and you pay the shipping, deal?

I've got mixed feelings with the KL1. I was hoping for a whiter beam. The 1st KL1 I received today (should have 3-more next week) was way bluer than I thought it was going to be. I'm not sure if I like it or not.

Also, compared to all of my ARC-LS lights, the KL1 does not have a wide of a throw. Could be interesting for those that want to use the KL1 for walking at night.

i wanted the KL1 badly, but i just didn't want sacrifice my clip on my E2, anyone wants to trade E2e body with a new E2 body?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">?? Who has ever seen a pure white LS? Doesn't exist. And if it did, it certainly wouldn't have a green corona. I'm not sure what you mean... ??

I just received my KL1 (#868) from LPS and mine leans towards blue. It makes my Arc LS seem sorta yellow. My subjective immpressions match Sean's pics above. I really like this sucker!

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">I don't know about original ArcLS1. My ArcLS hybrid 400ma provides no wider throw than 2 of KL1 i got except that both of KL1s are much brighter. I found that badboy yellow has wider throw than my ArcLS and KL1s.

I think my KL1 is pretty bold blue as nascar said. I don't know how much I like it or dis-like it (the beam color) yet but I know it's bright.

The throw (and width of throw) on mine seems better than that of my Arc LS.

I've also noticed that it flickers slightly in "moon" mode. Not that it's a technical problem but I was just wondering if anyone else noticed this.

OK..I will weigh in. Got my KL1, (#236) from Brightguy. Compared to my BADBOY yellow and Lambda Illuminator here is what I see...

My LI is very bright, tightly focused with a pronounced green corona. The BB is whiter than the LI and has no real detectable green, however it is a more diffuse beam.

The KL1+E2 is as bright and tightly focused as the LI with a larger hot spot and more blue/violet shading ...it really makes the LI and BB look green. Outdoor tests have not yet been conducted. The KL1 is a keeper, but I wish the Ex series had a clickie!!!

Geoff:

Put the KL1 on your Scorpion and your wish will be answered. (except that it won't be on an
Ex series light)

In trying to reconcile the color variations with Surefire's intention of "hand picking" the Luxeons, it's hard not to wonder: "who's hand is doing the picking"?

My KL1 arrived today.

Stuck it on an E1, and twised the tailcap with wonderous anticipation....

Well, honestly, I wasn't jumping out of my chair. This sample's beam had a tight hotspot (tighter than an Arc LS1 and LI), and a very blue/violet-coloration.

It (KL1) is probably a keeper, but I'm gonna have to "try it out" for awhile to see if I get used to the beam's coloration.
