i am thinking of getting a L2 and was trying to do a search but keep getting a screen saying fatal error. could someone direct me to some good threads on the plus and minuses of the L2? thanks!

Here's my opinion on the L2. If you're looking for a general utility light, you really can't go wrong with the L2. It's got a great flood of low light for walking around, and when you need to penetrate the darkness a little more, you can kick it into high mode for a stunning wall of light. But I'll echo what I've read from a lot of other L2 owners -- this light is primarily a low output light with a "turbo" mode, as the L2 only keeps up its high output for 30-50 minutes but can run for 10 hours on low.

If you're looking for a high output light you are better off with the Surefire L4, which will run for about an hour and 20 minutes before dimming down.

Carrot is right on the money! The L2 is a great light for walking at nites.

The L2 is my best walking-at-night light.

The low has a warmspot that shoots maybe 50 feet (in real dark) and and a LOT of flood that lights your feet AT THE SAME TIME. So you can see where your feet are AND where you're going without repointing.

The high is legendary for good reason - it illuminates 50 feet out but maybe 50 feet wide too! Here in the NorthEast, you can't see much beyond 50 feet on all but the straightest trails anyway. I love seeing "the whole picture". I find that even mild spots give me tunnel vision in the woods - if the hotspot hits less than 100 feet away.

Also, the L2 switch can be twisted for continuous on... then pressed further for momentary high. This is SO useful.

I have no reservations is saying this is the very best walking light, IMHO.

I also find my L2 to be a great flood light. You get a good feild of vision with this little beauty lighting up what is around you. Check out the B/S/T threads for a good deals.
