Hey all,

Does any one know of a good replacement for the L5? I have a brand new L5 that I love, however I need something in the same "arena" that I can used for my job for under $75. If it gets damaged, it won't be a big deal. I would hate to use the L5 and drop it.

THX in advance.

The whole point of Surefires is to be USED! And beaten up and enjoyed... All of my Surefires are beaten up, scraped up, scratched up, dinged up, and all work perfectly.

But if you really, really, can't bring yourself to beat it up, try a Surefire G2L or a Quark 123^2 or Quark Turbo.

I haven't kept up with that model. Does your L5 have a 5w LED, or is there a newer version with a SSC, and tighter beam?
A lot of these newer lights with XP-E and XP-G emitters have large hotspots and bright spill, and might replace an original L5(or a newer version, for that matter), at least beam-wise, with less heat, longer runtime, and in a much smaller package to boot. L5s have never been very size-efficient lights, and around here had a fairly short period of popularity when 5w lights were a new thing, and heat a problem.

As far as buying lights from a company geared toward military and law enforcement, that has a much higher than average level of reliability and durability, plus a lifetime warranty, and treating the things as if they're painted porcelain figurines...well, I don't know what to say.
I'd ask for a pic of the light, but I wouldn't want the HA to get faded from a camera flash:crackup:
:p

THX carrot and owen,

Don't get me wrong, I too believe that these lights are supposed to be used abused and enjoyed. However, this light has sentimental value. I've abused a couple of L4s and one L2. They are great lights, but they did not compare to the "coverage" that I got from the L5. That is why I need a "throwaway" light. I know that as time goes on, lights get smaller, more efficient, and better. I'm just looking for something that gives me a good bright white led with a good center spot and plenty of spill. I've been out of the "flashlight" scene for a few years now, so I don't know what the "good deals" are.

Thx a lot guys! I really appreciate all the great help. Have any of you heard of the MTE SSC P7-D LED 900 lumen flashlights? Are they any good or is it just hype?

Get a used, beat up L5 from ebay or CPF marfketplace, that way you will have 2 L5s, one shelf queen and another one a workhorse!
