I was wondering if anybody had any experience with the lansky non-metal knife

I'm not talking about the need for razor sharp wood-cutting or anything like that, I just want to know if this is something you reccomend in carrying in a backpack because of it's light weight. It's main purpose would be things like buttering a sandwich and cutting trough tape, nylon wire or plastics.

Buttering a sandwich: yes (but you have a credit card for that /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif ). Any tape or plastic you can cut with it, you can easily tear. Nylon wire: don't think so.
Just done a little test: sawed through a bit of 2mm woven cotton line with difficulty and destroyed the serrations. The plain edge doesn't come close to cutting it.
Don't know why I keep mine.

Thanks for the comments. I had hoped it would have been a bit more sturdier and sharper.
