Large 6volt Lantern batteries

hey guys, first post long time lurker.........

im a casual collector of vintage lights an lanterns nothing special just a few Big Beams an such but im curious as to whether or not they make a supplement for the larger 6v batteries. anything else out there I can use instead like maybe a shell that looks like a large 6v but with modern guts??>......im curious cause I would like to be able to use my big beams an other spot lights for the for seeable future

Yes, there are "D" battery to 6 volt adapters you can buy. Look for "Rayovac Industrial Lantern Battery Adapter."

Yes, you can get sealed lead acid lantern batteries, just google SLA lantern battery for loads of results.

i just googled the adapter an theyre for the smaller size 6v ..........i need something for the larger type 6v with the 2 screw tops on top that your screw directly to the bottom of the light ........heres 1 of my lights. these larger type batteries are a pain to find an i dont think theyre gonna be around much longer thats why the need for a replacement if its available.

You may have to invest in designing a box that holds other commonly available batteries.

You could carefully dismantle one of those big 6 V batteries and remove the existing cells from inside it, then construct your own "insides" that has a battery holder for smaller batteries like rechargeables for instance.

i just ordered one from ebay ($18.98 shipped) an when it dies im gonna do what you suggested.........maybe get 2 off the smaller rechargable 6v's and wire them together yada yada yada with out burnin the house down


btw i think im all mixed up with the voltage ......smaller spring tops are 6 volts an the larger screw post ones are 12volts

Apparently the larger screw top Lantern Batteries have been made in both 6 V and 12 V versions. In the old days they were 6 V and these days they evidently are 12 V. You will need to pick appropriately if you are planning to use them with old lanterns so you don't blow the bulb.
