I have a pair of laser goggles NIB that appear to be marked 10.6nm (actually I think they are marked 10,6nm, but are from a European manufacturer).

What process uses light in this wavelength? I did a little googling and only found reference to 'soft xrays' which I guess fits the maps I found of color vs wavelength (10.6nm would be in the ultraviolet region between visible light and x-rays).

The goggles have the original price tag ($500+) and I am just wondering what industries/applications might be creating light in that wavelength such that someone would create protective eyewear for it.

I think it's actually 10,600 nm . Europe has different ways of using decimals and commas than folks in the states. There's quite a bit of medical laser equipment that operates in that range.

You'd have to look it up in google, which is where I got my info from. Seems it's mostly used in cosmetic surgeries, like acne/wrinkles/scar removal and that sort of thing.
