I'm just wondering a few things about compatibility issues with different parts, because I would like to order a few things and put together this 808nm IR laser I've been talking about.

First, what would I have to modify on a leadlight circuit board to accept a 9mm 1W 808nm diode?

Second, I realize I need to use a four lens collimating lens assembly for this setup which can be found here: http://www.optima-prec.com/multi.htm -will these lenses mount to the 9mm diode? How will they attach and will they work in a leadlight body? Also, I take it I would need the lenses with the 830nm "design wavelength" on the site because it is the closest to 808nm, correct?

Lastly, if I'm going to follow through with this, where can I find some good cheap IR protection?

Hmm, so no one even knows where to find IR protection?

Your IR diode will function without modifications of the board, but you certainly can't use it at his max power since the current will be around 1-2 Amp for this diode.

About the body, first a 9mm diode is too big to put into the brass body of a Leadlight if you want to do this (I just received my 9mm 500mW, I have to change the internal diameter which hold the diode in front of crystals.
My diode has a diameter (measured) of 8.98mm and and 6,42mm. So you have to choice a mount to hold the diode and the optics according to this dimensions...

sbk, what is your plan for this 500mW diode? You're going to power it with the Leadlight driver board? Where did you get it and how much did you pay for it? What kind of housing are you going to mount it all in? This is the kind of project I've been thinking about and I would love to hear your ideas.

My plan is to repair my old Leadlight. I will take the old driver board, but I will certainly have to modify it to obtain more current (operating current is 650mA).
I've get it on eBay for 51 euros.
I project to re-use the Leadlight housing, I just have to modify the brass parts which hold the diode, because it was designed to hold 5,6mm laserdiode.

n.b: do you receive my PM, and do you reply to it? I've received a read confirmation but no response to my questions...
