Hello..
I wonder how the mirror laser show boxes do work !?
Are there ONLY mirror that move extremly fast?
or is it a filter that also help out making all these cool effects..

On this site : http://www.laserglow.com./entertain.html
there is alot of cool laser show projectors, and i wonder what is inside them, and is there anyway that i can make one myself ??

what i want is that pattern look like this :

how to do ? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I would post this in the Laser forum. Or a moderator could move it.

laser is a LIGHT /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
and i do want to make a "homemade" laserLIGHT show machine /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif haha

i was not sure where to post it..... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

The simple ones do use mirrors to make simple lissajoules and spiralgraph images. But anything that needs to turn the beam on and off needs some more advanced control (software and hardware).

You show something turning off and on while drawign a simple line back and forth. If that is all you want, well, take a laser pointer, a mirror, and a multiple speed fan.

Glue the mirror to a speaker. Point the laser pointer at the mirrror at an angle. With music now you should get a line that varries in lenght. Using output from yoru computer you can generate a constant note, to get a constant line lenght.

Now, take the fan and put it in the beam to get the on off effect. Adjust speed or take off the fan blade and replace with card board with holes cut out of it. You will need to play with this set up to get a good looking effect.

I think this would be the cheapest approach. Also, i think some laser pointers have replaceable heads that will display a dashed line pattern. Perhaps that is close enough.

haha.. thanx PocketBeam !!

that is something i did not think of, that part using a fan that rotate /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
I have tryed the mirror on a speaker before and that works perfect...

next to do is try using that fan /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

But i also want to find a mirror with engine (maybe take apart a cheap lasershow light) and connct it to music or connect it to a PC...

I have a cheap laser show light. You can get almost the same effect by putting two mirrors, one on each speaker. You bounce the laser off both mirrors. One to get vertical motion, and the other to get horizontal motion.

Redline lasers sell a simple set of scanners for $95.

hmm wonder if i`m gonna buy one of that !
But what hardware\software do i need to control that stuff /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif) i`m not so electric freak like the japanese (the link above)
Not anybody here selling a homemade laser projector that i can controll from my pc ? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

what is a scanner ? (is that only rotating mirror?)

Scanner is the moving mirror part of the display system.
You then need a "driver" a small board with amplifiers to move the scanners. You also need a control system, either a PC or dedicated control system.

Here is a schematic for a simple driver circuit. You will need 2 of these, 1 for each of the scanners. Input can be almost any waveform. EG music or a waveform generated by your computer. The signal should be at audio line level voltage.

Buy yourself tthis book-
The Laser Cookbook, by Gordon McComb. TAB Books ISBN 0-8306-9390-4. It is full of simple circuits you can build for laser scanners, drivers and oscilators. There are many other laser projects there as well.

Hmmmmm, link doesnt appear to work. I'll see if I can sort it out.

EDIT- /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

ok /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif i will take a look at that..

But i dont got "that" skills in building stuff...
Mostly becouse i dont know where to get all the parts..
and i need wery detailed instrution haha..

But i dont understand why i must have a driver ?
if u put in a "sound" directly to a electrid engine (like the driver? ) the mirror will go in all diretions anyway..
hmm
i think i just answer my question lol ..

So the driver make sure the mirror only step back and forward ? not spinning wildly ?

if there is anybody want to make me a scanner and driver, say so /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif or maybe got all parts so i can put it togheter myself /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

You need the driver circuit because just a signal on its own doesn't have enough current to move the mirrors on the scanners.

All the parts in the drawing above should be readily obtainable from radio shack.

I will see if I can find you something a bit easier to construct.

I have seen a design that uses 2 servos from radio control models. This would be cheaper to build but not as effective as the servos move much slower.

Liteglow, nice link. I like that air laser. A grage sale and some parts from home store (home depot) coudl build a UV laser. Cool.

OK then, here is a schematic to drive a model radio control servo. just feed it an audio signal between 0.5 - 1.0 volts. Use the potentiometer (R2) to "tune" the circuit. This will find the point where the servo moves in both directions when the signal is applied. Build 2 of these and use 2 servos to produce X-Y scanning effects. Component cost is probably $5-7.
Just glue small mirrors on the end of the servo shaft.

thanx for all help /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif i think i start learning now /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

But there is no Radio-shack in norway.
But i do have this : www.elfa.se (english also)
i think they got all i need !!

This project is cool :
http://spt06.chez.tiscali.fr/00/scan2.htm

i think i can easy make somethink like that !
i got alot of speakers, but i do also got "electric pulse magnet" (a magnet that PULL out in fast speed pulling a shield) maybe i can use them insted of speakers ?

I did belive that u need something that can HOLD position when making symbols and text!

Quazar : if that scanner with RC servo is slow, it`s may best that i try to make one that are better /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
have you made anyone, maybe u have one to sell?

Is there anybody that are going to radio-shack soon, and can buy me some parts ? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif i will pay u...
