Anyone already found the sweet spot, great picture and reliable unit, in large screen LCD TVs @ Costco so I don't go off half cocked?

I was thinking bigger is better, 40"+, narrowed the choice to LCD in my lotta-windows living room, and I can move back as needed because the room has the space.

Something for my lovely wife who likes closed captioning and watching DVDs. We have dishnetwork because we are out in the sticks without other choices.

Thinking about the Sharp 46" model, probably stand mounted: http://www.costco.com/Browse/Produc...P_Price|1||P_SignDesc1&lang=en-US&Sp=C&topnav=

Sharp Aquos

46" 1080p LCD HDTV
Slimline Design

Resolution: 1920 x 1080
Dynamic Contrast Ratio: 7500:1
Brightness: 450cd/m2

Here is a link to some discussion of this TV on AVSforum for your amusement: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=13539640

Thank you kindly for any tips.

Aquos has always been top of the line of the LCD tv's IMO. I have a 15" one that I keep in my motorhome so I don't have to run the generator. The picture is fantastic and they have a great track record for reliability.

She is hip to my plans.

And, she wants the 52" Sharp. $2200 is a little off budget. They say to buy from a "no questions asked" return policy vendor in case you get a lemon. Apparently, either these TVs are top drawer or they are lemons so you may have to test the return policy. Costco has a good rep in this department from my experience.

Seems somewhat foolish to load into a luxury item on the lip of a recession. Should probably wait and see. Price could drop, wife could leave, can't eat the TV, not much on anyway, and other moments of doubt...

Got the Sharp 52" LCD from Costco.

The picture and sound are flawless. The controls are robust. Packing, instructions and setup all excellent.

Got the Playstation3 for the Blu-ray feature, also from Costco, which came with beaucomp cables and a remote. Watched BR version of "No Country For Old Men" and was amazed. The antelope is hit in the rear right buttock by the bullet by the way.

Thank you for your replys. They are much appreciated.

Now the sound system: SoundOn WHT-510 All-Wireless Home Theater perhaps (the wireless aspect of the speakers appeals to me).

I was going to get a 52" myself but found a good deal on a TV that was 42" 1080p. This was 6 months ago. It's a good thing too because after I mounted it on the wall I realized I wouldn't have had the room for the 52.

You get used to the size fast and forget how small your last TV was. Also it can be irritating watching shows that aren't in HD. I've basically removed most of the non HD channels from the channel line up.

How do you have the TV set up right now? Stand or wallmount?

It sits atop a closed piano in the stand it came with.

The rub is that the piano was my wife's Christmas-in-miniature town scene display area. The inside of the house is hers while the outside is mine (a deal made many years ago by me). So, I will have to switch to plan B before this Christmas.

The house is like a mountain lodge from the 70's with cedar paneling on the lion's share of the inside walls. I don't like putting holes in the walls so I will have to bite the bullet in order to do the wall mount or use another display strategy.

At 90 pounds it would be an athletic event to wall-mount the TV.

Got my Magnavox 42" LCD 1080P from Costco for a bit under $1000 plus tax and shipping a little more than a year ago. Even though it's a bit of a no-name compared to the Aquos' and all, it's been just great in picture, reliability, etc...
