No, it's just the oposite. The smaller the resistor the lower the power rating. ie. a 1/4w is smaller than a 1/2w

What if the pot and both controlling resistors were removed, the contacts for the original smr's were bridged with solder and the you put the 220ohm resistor where the pot used to be? When i was doing the pot mod for the first time i think i pressed down too hard or something and now the pot turns a little too freely. This in turn causes current draw fluctuations so im just looking for a way to keep it a bit more stable.

A weird thing about mine is after the resistor mod and after a problem I took off my 220ohm res. and there was no difference in output -20mw the same as with resistor on. And it still drew 400ma of current just like when it was on, so then I bridged the gap with solder and Its still the same 400ma current 20mw. But before my "problem" I was pushing out 65mw at 440ma, my "problem" Is a whole nother thread

pictures of the driver chip modded or pictures of the modded beam? I have pics of mine modded but they are the old school big resistors with the long leads on each end.

if you cant solder tiny parts good find someone who can, and make sure you use a very low power soldering iron-like 25w, and make sure to tin your tip and use something to hold chip securely while doing it.

Is there a strong benift to putting that 3.3kohm resistor in? I did this mod awhile ago and used a 100ohm resistor instead of 220, it seems to be working fine though

Actually the 3.3k is just as importanat as the 220.

It allows the circuit to run more stable and with less overdriving of the board components. It's not just the diode that can have probs with the new higher current.

Just replacing the pot resistor alone though doesn't give the max current of 550ma because of the layout and extra heat generated by the circuit - resistance rises and the power drops as the components warm-up. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jpshakehead.gif

Thanks LaserMod for you helping in French.
So I put a 3.3Kohm and remplaced 220ohm by 0ohm and no problem findings.

You mean just shorting the contacts?

You will be risking the diode with that amount of power.
