Leadlight glp-105

I decided to return the 50mw laser i had ordered before even recieving it due to the warnings about buying a 50mw laser from an unfamiliar name for 80 dollars. I decided to buy a leadlight glp-105 what is a good price for one of these ebay wise? Also what is the max power one of these can get up to if i modify it? Lastly, if unmodified is it something i would need protection like goggles for using?

Also, in a relatively dark room with enough light to at least see stuff around you, like movie theatre level of darkness (by no means am i saying i am dumb enough to bring a laser in a movie theatre, im just comparing it to the darkest i can get my room to be) how visable would the beam be?

Pre-modification, it would be difficult to see the beam of a <5mW leadlight105 in a dimmly lit room. Post modification (depending on the level of success) you should have no problem viewing the beam of the laser. These lasers usually mod to 15-30mW with the potmod alone. There have been cases in which people have posted modding their 105s up to 70mW, but this is very rare. Personally I have modded over a dozen of these units and only 4 were capable of stinging the skin (tattooed only), melting black trash bags, and popping balloons.
The black leadlight105 from vitalspirit on ebay usually goes for $45 from vital spirit in an auction, but if you opt for the buy it now option you can get on between 62-65$ with shipping. Also you will not need goggles for a class 3a laser before it is modified.

Another option would be to check out the Atlas Nova pointers. If you are looking to get a higher spec laser and plan on using it in an acceptable mannor, the owner has the CPF special - which is one of the best deals around. It's more $$ than a regular 105, but, in my opinion, worth it. You will have to call AtlasNova directly for the higher spec lasers. I believe that his pointers are a better grade of leadlight (better components). Arnold was very helpful to me, and I had the pointer in two days. He tests his lasers before shipping, so you know what you are getting. I have a 38.7 mW I ordered from him a while back (the beggining of this hobby), and it has always run rock solid for me. I havent been exactly gentle with it either -been camping a few times, been out on a boat with me, and it's been dropped a couple of times on hard surfaces, only thing I've had to do is change the batteries and clean the lens.

If you are looking to mod your laser, go with the 105. The pot mod is very easy, and you can get a decent gain if you are lucky. I would guess that I'm getting 15 -20 mW out of both the 105's I've modded. If the poy mod isn't enough, ther are more mods that can be done as well. It seems that most people are very satisfied with the vital spirit 105's for modding.

I have a 5mw leadlight 110 from atlasnova, and I have no problems seeing the beam at night, in a dimly lit room. My room is lit to such extent that I can walk at night, with the lights out, and not step on my cats, so you get an idea. On the other hand, I live in a relatively humid city, with a fair amount of pollution too (yuck).

This is to show that visibility is not a straight fact, if you have 5mw you won't see the beam. It all depends on the conditions and your sisitivity to that color at night. Some people can see the beam better than others.

Anyways, as some guys already stated, once you pot mod yours, you'll have no problem at all in seeing the beam, even in a room with a 60watt light bulb on (my 21mw greenie).
