LED Bulb replacement for a halogen bulb?

I have a dynamo light system on my bike, the rear is LED but the front is halogen. would there be any improvement, the dynamo produces 6v 500a.

It's not a bad plan, but for the unknown gain you'll get in brightness, you won't win any runtime. There are a few standlight circuits to shoose from on these forums, mine's here:

But there are others that use batteries, charge batteries, switch the number of LEDs and so forth.

I've never had a dynamo system, but it's my understanding that they have a rather high output impedance -- could have overvoltage issues with some switching regulated circuits. They're also AC, so you need to make sure the circuit handles reverse polarity.

If you don't want to build a standlight circuit, I'd be inclined to just direct-drive an XM-L (or better, two wired in reverse-parallel) to run on opposite half-cycles), should run something like 1A or so, and each LED serves as reverse-voltage protection for the other one. Of course you'll want different optics, but that's true in any case. PR-base LED modules are usually fairly poor performers in standard reflectors -- only the everled comes close in emission pattern (thanks to the old Luxeon side-emitter), and it would be rather less bright than your present rig (also thanks to the old Luxeon side-emitter).

I modified a Lumotec oval with an XP-G LED that I mounted on a small piece of aluminium:

Much more light, but you need to carefully aim the LED to get a good cutoff beam as in the original halogen.

I was considering making a LED http://www.instructables.com/id/Dynamo-powered-LED-bike-lights/ or make a LED bulb http://www.instructables.com/id/Make-your-own-LED-bulb-replacement-for-regular-tor/ but thought I might try to buy a ready made LED bulb first. I was in the process of making a rectifier but hadnt put it together yet since I dont have a pcb.
