On my way to work, by headlight vibrated loose and made a dive for freedom.
When I picked it up, it wouldn't come on. On the roadside, I disassembled it and realized the LED came off the star. With some fiddling, and an extra o-ring between the lens and the reflector, I was able to get it working and continued into the office.
With a little research here on CPF, I found that I was going to need solder paste. There is a Fry's less than a mile from my office, so I checked online and it said they had it in stock. I got there, they didn't have it and the guys working that area of the store had never heard of the stuff. After standing there looking through the same part of the store that I'd already looked through, they kind of gave up. The did have Arctic Silver Thermal Silver Adhesive which I bought. Not the right stuff, (of course, it's packaging has no information on it so I didn't know it wouldn't work until I got back to the office and looked at the instructions on arcticsilver.com).
So now I'm trying to track down someone who sells SolderIt here in town.
I'll have to rig it back together for the ride home, but here is my question:
The back of the LED appears to have three contact points. The star also has three contact points. A big square one in the middle and two narrow ones at the top and bottom.
Do I apply solder paste to all three contact areas or only two of them?
