I believe Craig reviewed one of these and based on CPFers reccomendations I didn't get one. Dim, wobbly head and took button batteries.

I got some of the 2nd one (different label but same design) on clearance about a month ago. It uses a stack of button cells for power. (3 or 4 I don't have one with me.) The light is comparable to a AAA Dorcy or CMG AAA flashlight. The only objection I had was the cap can unscrew all the way.

I just got one similar to the second one. It was a free. I wouldn't pay money for one.

The battery compartment looks large enough for lots of battery power, but it is mostly solid. There are just a few small batteries and the rest is solid aluminum, making it uneciasarily heavy. There aren't enough threads for it to be safely sored in a bag without it coming apart or turning on.

The plastic one might be better. It is red, though, which I have very little use for.

I saw them at Target... they looked like they would give a little better light than a plain carabiner. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

They are pretty cheap... you can't expect much...

On the other hand,,, those garrity battery glow wands with the leds are really cool, and fun. They were even cheaper.
I guess you never know.

I was thinking that the tube might be large enough to be threaded internally and an ARC head installed. The body might have to be bored out to accept a battery. Galyan's has these also as does some other places now.

Neat thing about the Glow stick from Garrity is when it breaks because one is too impaitent to carefully dissasemble it (vise grips and channel locks anyone?) and it breaks into dozens of parts, /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif the tube is still intact and can fit over a sonic with a little tape to hold it snuggly. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I'm wondering if it isn't a good idea to disallow the use of the word "carabiner" unless it is load rated.

My comment wasn't really referring to this in particular. They sell all sorts of clips called carabiners and don't carry a load rating OR warning that it's not load rated.

The etymologists would argue with you. Carabiners were used on carbines and all kinds of other things for centuries before people started using especially strong carabiners for climbing.
