Anyone messed with these huge ruggedized LED lights yet? They appear to have some sort of 3W Luxeon LEDs. The 2D claims 80 lumens, As does the spotlight. There was another big one that claimed 100 lumens.

They have some big reflectors, and (I think) would make some interesting super-mods, for those of you skilled enough to do so.

Bought a 2D 3watter for by brother in law and or course, I had to check it out first. I think they are great lights for non-flashaholics that are used to the form factor and common cell configuration. Most folks that see my "fancy lights" just gaze right on past and wonder why. This is a chance to let them see the light...pun intended.

I have both the 2D and 4D. They seem to work well and are fairly bright. Good to have around the house in case of emergency.

I recommend these to my friends who don't have a decent light. They are easy to get at Home Depot, seem rugged, and easy to feed with D batts. Sure beats the cheap lights most folks would buy and gets em on the led bandwagon.

The "Hard Case" series also includes AA cell lights (in single- and multiple- 5MM LED versions). Aside from Home Depot, Wal-Mart is also stocking them.

What about the rechargeable ones at walmart? They look pretty interesting. Around 45 bucks though.

This is the only LED version I've seen (and own), the rest have been incan versions.
They REALLY need to go back to the drawing board with this 2xAA light. Make it a 1 watt at least. This light build wise is great and has a lot of potential, but the puny Nichia and lousy spot optics have to go. It's like building Fort Knox around a quarter.
They bring these 2xAA versions up to speed with better LEDs and I'll buy several of them, easily.
Gonna have to check out the larger 3 watter versions for now.

Sounds like your purchased the yellow 1-LED version. Although no lumen monster, the gray "professional" 3-LED version is a good bit brighter than the yellow one. $13 at Home Depot.

I bought the 2xAA 1 LED model. I had it for a couple weeks and was totally unimpressed with its lowly output, then I realized if it put out anything more it would overheat as it is totally encased in plastic like a cooler! OMG!

I picked up one at Wallyworld, pretty sad light for a cool package, and the plastic wrapping that you had to use a strong scissors to open, gave the light to my grandson, he loves it.

Like I said, the yellow version isn't that great. The gray, 3-led professional version is a bit better, and worthy of a place in my toolbox.
