I don't need (or want) to stick a probe up my battery's butt every couple of weeks to see how it's doing.........that just takes away from the simplicity of a flashlight.

It's ment to be used and not babied.

By not checking health, you can be using up your precious cycles at greatly reduced capacity. By using a few cycles up on a refresh, you get more capacity, which reduces the number of cycles of actual use.

BTW, the images of your prized 1991 cell clearly shows the cells is dead. Using a cell when it CLEARLY has been leaking is simply foolish.

Originally I thought this thread was simply about low light discipline (for whatever reason). If I had known it was to take being cheap to the extreme to save 1/4 of one cent to keep from using "extra" cycles, I would have laughed much sooner.

What is ironic however is you just spent >$100 on extended runtime lights to save a couple pennies (litterally) in batteries.

It doesn't look like it has been leaking, but it DOES look like it has been through tons of cycles.

The white powdery substance surrounding the positive terminal is clear evidence it has leaked the electrolyte, potassium hydroxide. It reacted with CO2 in the air to form the potassium carbonate visible in the images.

Have you ever looked through your pocket change? Do the older coins look different than the newer coins? It's just the fact that the battery has been used and enjoyed.

That's a friggin accomplishment, and you just try to blow it off as a neglected or abused cell. You are too much. How many of your cells can you say have lasted THIS long?

Think about lighting, angles and white balance, the battery is just beat to heck! I'm guessing the cell is still working, that is why BOL posted the image.

YUP, and the run time is something that is out of this world, it has been my bathroom light for the last 10 years using the original lithium cell. :nana:

I just recieved the Lumapower Connexion (original) and it is pretty darn sweet. Low is very low with super run time, and if you need the extra kick it has a very efficient medium and high. :thumbsup:

You do not have the cell in hand so you can't be sure if it is in fact leaking, you are just going by the images.

I find it simply amazing that you've been using a light for 10 years that has only existed for 5 or 6 years.
