I have heard of the following optics for luxeon LEDs.

<ul type="square"> [*]NX05 [*]30mm [*]McFlood [*]Fraen/Triple Fraen [*]and I have heard mention of NX01 [/list]
Are there other types of optics and what sized lights can they be used in?

What are the advantages, disadvantages, and beam patterns like for each type.

The short (and undoubtedly "uurred") version:

-NX05:
1Wer: LD- circular beam pattern, nice corona and good projection. HD- X-box beam, with hot center, and better projection of beam, and whiter than LDs.
5Wer: Don't even think about using it on a 5Wer. Just don't...

-30MM:
1Wer: LD- Pronounced circular beam, with sharp dropoff at corona, and bright central hotspot with excellent throw and narrow beam. HD- Xbox beam with even better throw and very white, and good spill from the x-figure of the beam.
5Wer: Squarish corona, with excellent smooth hotspot center that can really throw long. White and overflowing sidespill is great for peripheral illumination.

-McFlood:
Great wide spot, with the best spill of any optics, and is usually accompanied by small and somewhat pronounced rings of coronas (from the reflector) with a good uniform output from edge to edge.

-Fraen:
Somewhat of a cross between the 30MM and the NX05. It doesn't throw as well as the 30mm optic, but its side spill is quite good, and its beam center is quite diffused, about as wide as the NX05 is from about the same distance...

-NX01:
Smaller beam than the NX05, but a much more pronounced hotspot, with a more even spread of light inside that hotspot; very uniformed. Does not throw as far as the brighter centered NX05, but its beam's more useful, IMHO, than the NX05 when paired up with a LD... Haven't tried it yet with a HD or 5Wer...

If McGizmo's blazin' happy trails soon, we'll see some PM6 reflectored mods... And those guys should be a lot better than the KL4s, or any of these optics, save for the mag reflectors (when it comes to throw)...
